  1. How can I stop Windows from deciding the Alt key is down?

On my Windows 10 laptop, occasionally it will decide that the Alt key is pressed, turning every keystroke into an Alt combination. This is not a physical problem with the keyboard, as it happens with both the laptop keyboard and my separate USB keyboard.

I have learned to clear it by pressing a key combination, but it still happens to me, sometimes 2-3 times in a day, that this randomly happens. It causes me to close windows by accident and lose work and is generally an incredible annoyance.

Does anyone know about this bug? Searching online found the key combination fix, but I'm hoping that there is some setting that I can do to prevent this from happening at all. I just lost about 15 minutes worth of work because the computer decided Alt was pressed as I was typing and closed a window.

ALT keys not working after developers update

    Hello Paul,

To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • Which type of Windows device are you currently using? (PC, tablet or laptop)
    • If your device has 2 Alt button, does it happen on both Alt keys on the keyboard?
    • Since you're trying to input a special character using Alt key, have you checked if the Num Lock key is activated?
In the meantime, we recommend that you check if Sticky Keys is turned on in the Accessibility settings. Sticky Keys lets you press one key at a time for keyboard shortcuts. To check, refer to the steps below:

    • Click on Start.
    • Click on the gear icon to open the Settings.
    • Click on Ease of Access.
    • On the left panel, click on Keyboard.
    • Turn off Sticky Keys.
