How Do I Access 5 GHz Band On AC1750?

Very few devices use b now g/n works fine but if you know you don't have anything that connects via b or g , set it to 'n only' as it's much faster and more reliable.

I would also never recommend having the same SSID name for 2.4 and 5ghz , it can cause issues with some devices not knowing which band to connect to....always better to have different SSID.

Agreed, mine clearly states 5G at the end of it`s name.

    Hi there

You seem sometimes to be giving a load of false info

There is NO NECESSITY for the 2.4 and 5 GHZ to have the same or simiar SSID's --you can make them ANYTHING YOU LIKE.

I know people mnake mistakes but posting BLATANTLY INCORRECT info like that helps nobody (and it doesn't enhance your reputation either).

Networking on Windows is complicated enough for the average person -- posting wildly misleading stuff certainly won't help them either.

The simple answer to the OP's question

    1) Does the adapter used to logon to the router have 5 GHZ capability.
    2) Is the router 5GHZ enabled
3)Some devices need Wifi at 5 GHZ to use Lower channels otherwise won't be seen. (Some Chromecast devices are a case in point).

No point rabbitting on about what hardware you have etc -- the OP needs help with HIS setup --not a NASA type environment.

    Cheers

    Hi there

Just set the router to something like this on 5GHZ band - that should enable pretty well all 5GHZ capable devices to access it.

Nope, incorrect, you can enter anything as your SSID for both 2.4 & 5GHz bands but there has to be a slight difference for the wifi adapter to 'know' which band to use, this is usually done by adding _5GHz or using a different SSID for the 5GHz band.
You can have either 'sample' for 2.4GHz & 'sample_5Ghz' for 5GHz or 'stand' for 2.4GHz & 'walk' for 5GHz.
It is recommended to change the channel to one which isn't crowded but Auto works for me.

  8. How Do I Access 5 GHz Band On AC1750?

I had the settings for both 2.4 and 5 GHz set to auto per default. I have posted my screenshots. Thanks for all the information folks. But after struggling with the router yesterday, I just took the thing back and am now using my original N56-RTU. The router's interface was lousy and very difficult to navigate. Just not worth the trouble IMO.

In order for Wireless-ac to work, both bands have to have the same SSID. Also you have to set the channels properly, because the newer firmwares are coming with Band Sterring and also they have given back the DFS bands.

If you do not set the A/P up properly, it will not work.

Also there are still millions of wireless devices that use Wireless-g. The N is so that with 5GHz, you end up with two channels for the device to have for when it connects, it will use the 2.4 then go to 5 if the signal is strong enough. As you get farther away the signal drops, but you stay connected to the Access Point.

The point is that so far as I have seen is that people are just tossing information out there that does not fix the problem and causes other issues.

    Hi there

What Planet do you actually live on

SSID names are 100% USER assignable -- it's absolute Bovine Scatology to keep saying the SSID's have to be the same or even similar

I'm much too kind to say what I think you should do -- but a basic course IMO of Networking 101 wouldn't go amiss.

Perhaps a trip to Spain with the next Bull run (Pamplona St.Fermin festival)

  11. This thread has gone straight into the toilet. I started it with a simple question: How can I access the 5 GHz band on my new router. It has degenerated into pure junk. Enough is enough ...

@jimbo , you are 100% right. In my Public AP there 10 SSID with same Name but they all sending in different Channels, on the same Band.
Putting the same SSID Name just means people can not distinguish one from the other, Hardware is connecting to the strongest Signal.
