My cd track names not showing up in cd players and cars

It's important to understand that there two major kinds of CDs you can create (MP3 CD and Audio CD) and one subtype (Audio CD with CD Text).

If you burn MP3 files to a CD as a standard data disk then it's basically the same as copying MP3 files to a flash drive. This is typically referred to as an "MP3 CD". As long as the MP3 files are properly tagged (you can use a tool such as MP3Tag to check and set the tags), then the album, artist, and track names will be displayed. HOWEVER, only computers and modern CD players and car CD players can play MP3 CDs.

Old CD players have no concept of computer file systems. They just play regular audio CDs. If you burn your MP3 files as a regular "audio CD", using Windows Media Player, then it will play on most CD players (some older CD players aren't sensitive enough to play "burned" CDs so they only play original "pressed" CDs), but will contain no track information.

The original "audio CD" format is akin to vinyl records in that it's just a number of tracks with no textual data on the media. You had to get the track names by looking at the packaging. In the late nineties, CD-Text was added as an extension to the audio CD format, but apparently was not widely adopted.

If your standalone CD player or car CD player recognizes MP3 CDs, you should use that format. It's just so much more convenient.

Otherwise, you can try burning an audio CD with CD-Text and see if that displays the track names on those players. However, Windows Media Player does not support CD-Text, so you will have to find different CD burning software that does, such as ImgBurn.

 

Burned CD Won't Play with Media Player that Burned CD

I took tracks from the Library and burned them to a cd. To check it out I attempt to play it and get a red X next to each track as the player goes from one to the next. So the Media Player on my Win7 Pro PC wont play a CD created by it. HOWEVER CD plays
fine on a boom box. So what is not set up correctly to playback the CD.

Commercial CD's do still play with Media Player. Using latest updated version 12.

Firstly, Windows Media Player requires that content intended to be burned to discs be first stored on the computer's hard disk. Therefore, I would suggest you to copy all the songs to a folder first and then proceed to the next step.
