Windows 10: How do I change my Win10 password?

I thought this would be easy, my son has been misbehaving and I want to change the password so that I can control how often he logs onto the computer. However, this has proven to be a difficult challenge. I am the administrator on my Win10 machine. I went into Control Panel - User Accounts - selected the main account on this computer - Make Changes to this account in a PC setting - Sign-in Options - Password - Change. I ran through the entire procedure, including sending a code to my other laptop, and changed the password. I was surprised to find that only changed the password to my online Microsoft Account. When I restarted this Win10 computer, it still accepts the old password. But now I have a popup when boot finishes telling me that it wants to log into my MS Account. I put in the new password, and that works, but that is still not the one I want to change.


On my Win7 latpop, I just hit CTRL + ALT + DEL, and one of the options is Change Password. I have been changing the login password on that machine every 90 days for years. However, that option does not exist on this computer when I select CTRL + ALT + DEL. So I can't believe I have to post this, but I cannot figure out how to change the very first password when I log onto Win10 (NOT the MS Account Password).

Trouble Changing Wi-Fi Password


I've been following the following steps to change my Wi-Fi password for some time:

1. Launch Control Panel.
2. Click "Network and Internet."
3. Click "Network and Sharing Center."
4. Click "Wi-Fi...."
5. Click "Wireless Properties."
6. Click the Security tab.
7. Check "Show characters."
8. Enter the password in "Network security key."

Those steps have been working just fine, but today I discovered a new wrinkle. If I change the password inside the router first, "Wi-Fi..." doesn't appear in step 4. This isn't much of a problem at home, because I can just change the password in Control Panel before I change it inside the router, but it would be a problem at a public hotspot, or something of that nature. I also tested Brink's instructions in "How to Connect To a Wireless Network in Windows 10," but they don't work for me either. How can I fix this?

To open System Properties and check the version of Windows, follow the steps below:

1. Open Run Command (Windows button+R).

2. In the dialog box type control system and hit enter.

If you are using a Microsoft Account to log into your system and you are unable to change the password, then I would suggest that you sign in online and change your password. Follow the steps below to do so.
