How do I disable the Edge PDF Reader? - the one the opens a PDF file in a window that gives the user no option to enlarge or reduce or print or open with the Adobe reader, thus rendering it useless. All you get is a Save As option. I would like instead for it in invoke Adobe Reader.

I do not have this issue in IE 11 or in Chrome. I have already associated PDF extension with the Adobe Reader in File Explorer, but Edge still opens up the file in its useless no-option window.

Is there any way to disable it and have Adobe Reader present the file instead?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Edge overiding Adobe software, PDF forms no longer fillable.

Now that I have Windows 10 when I want to open a fillable PDF from the internet, it opens in Edge not my Adobe Acrobat Standard 9 program and thus is now not a fillable PDF. How do I disable Edge from opening PDFs?

Disabling Adobe PDF from Microsoft Edge

When I accepted the Windows 10 upgrade, I gave Microsoft Edge a try instead of Internet Explorer. Going through the setup options for Edge, I selected use Edge to open PDF files thinking I needed this option with the new Edge browser. Since then all my
Adobe files on my hard drive open with Edge only. I have full Adobe on my hard drive, have tried to go in and disable this Edge connection but no luck. Can someone tell me how to a) uninstall Edge or b) disable requiring Edge to open a PDF. I have tried Open
With options and restore previous versions, changing all from Edge to Adobe, but my hard drive continues to convert all PDF files to open with Edge first. Also went into Adobe program and made correct settings active. How do I disable this Edge connection?
    Help please.

Yes, newer version for Windows 10, but a free edition as was not sure if you are paying or using free edition. Works good for me in Windows 10, no more Edge opening it. Posted the linK in # 3 here for DC

  9. Hmm, now I am really confused. The Adobe DC Preference options seem to imply it cant be done ( yet oterh don't have an issue) :

Strange, i did nothing, just installed Adobe Acrobat DC and it took over, check Default program Settings in Control panel. Right click PDF file select Properties and Change it. Should not keep older version of Adobe also if you did.

  11. Great tip re the defaults... but no joy.

Under Edge defaults in Control Panel/Defaults/Associations, it clearly shows Adobe as the default for PDF and Edge as the default for the other extensions/protocols. And the Adobe default is also set.

    Adobe XI is already deleted.

    I have already rebooted.

So I am a bit stumped that :

    1) Edge is still forcing itself as the default reader.

    2) Microsoft makes it so difficult (and perhaps impossible on some systems) to change.

    3) Microsoft puts out such an absolutely awful reader in Edge. I literally cannot read any documents its too damn small. And even the triple dot browser zoom id disabled. They really botched this big time. Not really surprised.

    Currently out of options ....

  12. Wait... if "Microsoft Windows 10 will ship with two browsers - Internet Explorer 11 and the new Edge browser." .. are they implying that PDF files can be set to open in IE 11 ???? .. or are they just saying it ships with two browsers.

How do I disable the useless Edge PDF Reader???

Try here too, i was looking for a way to reset Edge like IE, but no success if it would of helped. You did try all my other options, so try this way even though the same as going into Control panel, maybe will work. And no, Edge is default PDF reader when first installing Windows 10. IE is still there, having Adobe should put a plug in, in browsers like Firefox, IE and other to read online PDF through the browsers.

  14. Any PDF file on the internet should be saved first to the computer before you open it with another program. If it is on the computer, you can choose the default program to open PDFs. If you are opening it with your browser from a webpage without downloading it first locally, of COURSE the browser will open it...

Click save, or save as, NOT open.

I have Pale Moon as the default browser and Foxit Reader portable as the default program for .pdf files.
When i click on a .pdf link in a webpage Pale Moon gives me a choice to open it with Foxit, choose another program, or save the file.
I could also use a plugin to open it in PaleMoon with Foxit.

    This is what i see.
