How do I disable the useless Edge PDF Reader???

I could not answer first question myself, assume labeeman is correct on IE's future.
Service packs, was rumors of that in old thread here, never happened, article you posted states it. I thought the Insider builds and was even told from higher up here eventually are put into the Windows 10 build which is now 10240. Only what i asked and heard, can't back it up as of yet.

  2. Per this source, it may be any time now : Heres next for Windows 10 | The Verge

And they refer to Service Releases vs Service Packs, so I wasn't that far off the terminology mark!

I have no complaints, Windows 10 works well for me, no issues so far.

  4. How do I disable the useless Edge PDF Reader???

This thread is an excellent example of why TenForums.com is far above the Microsoft forum. The "experts" working there will not admit that Edge will not allow you to see online PDF documents in Adobe, Foxit, or any other PDF reader. Once the Micro employee runs out of wild goose chases to send you on, and gets backed into a corner, they just stop responding and the thread dies.

Here at TenForums.com, the visitor/member can see the end conclusion, and quit banging our head against the wall trying to figure out a solution, if none exists. If you click on a PDF document link while using Edge, that PDF document will download to your default download folder (which I don't like) and display itself within the Edge browser, with many PDF manipulation functions missing...and there's nothing we can do about it, as of yet. That's too bad.

Every time I get close to the point of finally making Edge my default browser, another shortcoming rears its head. Edge is so smooth and clean, but it's still too "dumbed-down" in the customizable options and features category. Hopefully that will change.

Agree and hopefully MS will improve this browser that they have been bragging so much about since the Technical Preview edition of Windows 10. True it is fast and clean, but needs improvements as MS's IE still works better in ways.

  7. I don't know how to change the Edge default pdf reader, that without any "toolbar" or options menu is almost useless.
But at least I discovered that pressing the key combinations Ctrl+ and Ctrl- it enlarge and reduce the contained pdf document.

    Better than nothing...

If you're browsing with EDGE and click on a PDF document, that document will be opened by, and shown by EDGE. Even after following the advice given in this thread and every other source I can find for setting Adobe Reader as the default program to open PDF documents, online PDF documents will open in EDGE if the link is clicked on while using the Edge browser.

Has anyone yet discovered a way to have a PDF document open in Adobe Reader, even though Edge is the browser being used to view the webpage that contains the link tot he PDF document?

If I double click on a pdf file on the desktop it always opens it in edge, even if I set my preferred viewer as Foxit. The only way I can get it to open in Foxit or one of my other pdf viewers is to right click on the file and chose one from there. Why are we not allowed to choose a default viewer? Although of course when opening one from an Edge web page it's obviously going to open it in Edge, as do all other browsers.

It still puzzles me why we cannot use Open With to set our preferred program (Adobe Reader) to open pdf when using Edge browser.
    Yet, it works in IE11.

Just find out the possible answer:

    excerpt................ Source
Microsoft Edge Microsoft Windows 10 will ship with two browsers: Internet Explorer 11 and the new Edge browser.
The Edge browser will be the default browser, and Internet Explorer 11 will be available to support legacy workflows. The new Edge browser will not have any support for ActiveX plug-ins. Therefore, the Acrobat/Reader plug-in won't work with Edge. For more information, see Change in support for Acrobat and Reader plug-ins in modern web browsers.
Use Internet Explorer 11 to open PDFs. To enable the Acrobat/Reader plug-in in Internet Explorer, see the steps in the previous section.

How do I disable the useless Edge PDF Reader???

I didn't have this issue until I applied a Windows 10 update a couple of weeks ago.
I went through the Control Panel>Default Programs route to give Adobe Acrobat Reader DC all its defaults, but still found Edge was being used to open PDFs.
I've now tried a different tack. I opened Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and went to Edit>Preferences>General, then click the box to "Select As Default PDF Handler". Encouragingly, this opened a UAC dialogue box for me to confirm the change, which implies something has actually happened this time. Since then, PDFs have opened in Adobe Reader DC. However, I may not know if this is a permanent fix until my next reboot...

  15. Hi 10 is a lot better than 8,8.1,7 or Vista even XP
What troubles are you having with 10 or is it just Edge Browser you are having trouble with
I have used 10 and Edge since Beginning of August 2015 and have never had trouble with any PDF file opening or Printing,
    I did when I was using 8.1 and IE11
I used to have to use a Third Party App
