  1. How do I enter bios to change boot order on Toshiba Tecra? Esc/f1/f2/f12 do not work..

I need help with a clean install on my Tecra A11 as Windows 10 is seriously corrupted.

Microsoft support have helped set me up a bootable usb with clean install data but now I cannot enter BIOS to change the boot order.

There are multiple access issues e.g: I cannot do system reset/restore/troubleshoot/install/download as the error message " Windows cannot find....etc" displays.

"due to restrictions in effect on this computer..." is another error screen I come across regularly.

microsoft support failed to remote connect but I managed to get the intel remote assistance window installed so that it flashes up before any other boot device. Could this be used to remote connect? I basically need access to bios. Also tried formatting entire HD but was denied access. I am the only system administrator..

    ANYONE PLEASE!!!!

    :)

  2. Changing boot drive from HD to USB for OS install

    Hi RogerMattox,

My name is Rogelio. I am an Independent Advisor. Thanks for contacting our support.

    Boot Priority

BIOS (Basic Input Output Subsystem) is a programmable chip that controls how information is passed to various devices in the computer system. A typical method to access the BIOS settings screen is to press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the boot sequence.

BIOS settings allow you to run a boot sequence from a floppy drive, a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive or an external device. You may configure the order that your computer searches these physical devices for the boot sequence.

The first device in the order list has the first boot priority. For example, to boot from a CD-ROM drive instead of a hard drive, place the CD-ROM drive ahead of the hard drive in priority.

Before you set boot priority for a USB device, plug the device into a USB port.

    To specify the boot sequence:

    1. Start the computer and press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the initial startup screen. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, a menu may appear.

    2. Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears.

    3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority.

    4. To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list.

    5. To give a USB device boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following:

    - Move the hard drive device to the top of the boot sequence list.

    - Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives.

    - Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives.

    6. Save and exit the BIOS setup utility.

    7. The computer will restart with the changed settings.

How do I enter BIOS on Windows 10?

    Hi,

Win 8 and above are designed to work with UEFI BIOS, but can be installed without it...

It requires a certain method to do this that can vary by manufacturer...

Maybe you are having a problem with Fast Startup in Windows...

This feature only works when you do a SHUTDOWN and then Boot.

    It doesn't effect a RESTART.

To turn it off or on...

Go to Control panel...Power Options, and select Choose What the Power Buttons Do on the left.

Then select Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable near the top center of screen...

Lower down on the window, uncheck Fast Startup.

Here's something I found at Toshiba concerning different methods of getting into BIOS at boot..

Use one of the following methods to acess the BIOS.

    F2 key method

    • Turn the computer on.
    • If you see an invitation to press the F2 key to enter Setup, do so.
    • The Setup (BIOS) screen will appear.
    • If this method does not work, repeat it, but hold F2.

    F12 key method

    • Turn the computer on.
    • If you see an invitation to press the F12 key, do so.
    • Boot options will appear along with the ability to enter Setup.
    • Using the arrow key, scroll down and select <Enter Setup>.
    • Press Enter.
    • The Setup (BIOS) screen will appear.
    • If this method does not work, repeat it, but hold F12.

    Toshiba Hardware utility method

The Toshiba Hardware utility (HWSetup) can also be used to change some of the settings if F2 or F12 does not work.
This method may only work on some laptops.

    • On the Start Screen type in HWSetup.
    • In the search returns select HW Setup to open.
    • Make changes as necessary and select "Apply."
    • Reboot the computer if not prompted to do so.

  4. How do I enter bios to change boot order on Toshiba Tecra? Esc/f1/f2/f12 do not work..

    Change my start drive.

To change the boot device you have two options:

    • Tap the appropriate function key at boot time to select the boot device. On my Acer laptop it is F12.
    • Tap the appropriate functiion key at boot time to get into the BIOS. It is often Esc, F1 or F2.
