Windows 10: How do I find the Hard drives and type of Hard drive + Plus Drive Letters?

Okay, so I am trying to figure out which hard drive is designated for my storage and for my Operating system.Overall I was to know What type of drives they are, whether it is theata or the NVME one and I do not want to have to open it up again.HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, PleaseSarah

Missing hard drive and dvd

I request you to check hard drive status in the Disk Management.

Refer to these steps to open the Disk Management.

1. Press Windows and R keys together.

2. Type in diskmgmt.msc and press enter.

3. Check the hard drive status in the Disc Management. If there is no drive letter assigned to hard drive, assign a drive letter to hard drive and check.

a. Right-click a partition, logical drive, or volume, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

b. Do one of the following:

To assign a drive letter, click Add, click the drive letter you want to use, and then click OK.

I suggest you to follow the below suggestion provided by SpiritX MS MVP replied on August 4, 2015 and check if it helps.

unrecognised external hard drive on Windows 10

Since you already reinstalled the drivers of the External Hard Drive, let's run the
Hardware and Devices troubleshooter as it can resolve your concern. You can do that by following these steps:

• 
  Press the Start button.
  
• 
  Type and select Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Click on View all on the left panel.
  
• 
  Select and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
  

If the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter doesn’t resolve your concern, we suggest that you change the letter of the External Hard Drive. You can do that by following these steps:

• 
  Press the Start button.
  
• 
  Type and select Control panel.
  
• 
  Select System and Security.
  
• 
  Select Administrative Tools, and a new window will appear.
  
• 
  Double-click Computer Management, and a new window will appear.
  
• 
  Select Disk Management that is located under
  Storage in the left pane.
  
• 
  Right click on the External Hard Drive that is not showing on the File Explorer.
  
• 
  Select Change letter and network path, and a new window will appear.
  
• 
  Select Change, and choose the letter that you want for the External Hard Drive.
  

After changing the letter of the External Hard Drive, we suggest that you reboot your laptop for the changes to take effect.

initialise a hard drive

Initialize means format a hard disk. Is the hard disk attached internally or is it an external drive?

Press Windows key + X

Click Disk Management

Right click the drive if you see it listed then click Format.

Wait while the drive formatted.

You might need to assign the drive a letter.

If you see your drive listed there, but no drive letter, right click it

Click Change Drive Letter and Paths

Click Add

Click Assign the following drive letter

Click in the Drive letter list box

Choose a drive letter - try choosing letters near the end of the alphabet

Click OK

Click OK again
