Windows 10: how do i fix when documents and pictures gone after i deleted them in onedrive

i was getting frustrated on my onedrive that was getting full and giveing me notification so i just deleted all of it than my documents and pictures is gone i have them saved but nothing ive checked regedit nothing cant even find a trace of it existing anymore

OneDrive deletes my local Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders ?!

@Samuria Hi, I've performed a OneDrive [Back up folder on this PC] test with the Documents folder of mine (with just a few test files), and again OneDrive deleted the Documents folder just like that without asking or suggesting anything. So right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area, push Settings, then again Settings in next pane, etc ... I simply followed the instructions in the link below: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/...a-6552e77c3057 On that support page the first picture after the video shows the pane [Where do you want to keep your files], with the options: --Continue backing up this folder (Recommended) --OneDrive only --Computer only The pane with those 3 options does NOT appear in my case. OneDrive immediately takes a backup of my D:drive Documents folder, puts then the aliases (references) of the backed up files in an OneDrive alias cloud icon folder, in an newly created empty Documents folder on the C:drive, en continues to delete the entire D:drive Documents folder into the trash where I could just pick up. Note that the C:drive Documents folder was moved several days to the D:drive where is was seen as the default folder by Office and other apps, and even by OneDrive as it picked the correct D:drive Documents folder to back up. Conclusion: there is something seriously wrong with OneDrive and the way it operates. For me this closes the discussion, I won't use OneDrive for backing up any data. Goodbye OneDrive! Problem with location of Pictures library after making pictures available on OneDrive

I did what you suggested but it ended up making OneDrive the Pictures library. This may have something to do with the way i originally moved the Pictures folders to OneDrive. I probably should explain:

Because there already was a (fairly empty) Pictures folder under OneDrive (automatically set up I think when transferring a few Ipad photos to PC via OneDrive) I had moved the top level Pictures folders into D/users/myname/OneDrive rather than moving
the Pictures folder itself. This was probably a bit stupid but I subsequently moved the top level Pictures folders into that pre-existing Pictures folder on OneDrive and that's how we got to where we are today.

To continue after that diversion. Following the restore you suggested, the pictures folder under Libraries was still wrong but it looked a lot better ie it was no longer offering me a choice of locations for Pictures folders and, instead was just showing
me all the top level folders for what it (wrongly) thought was the Pictures folder. But it was still not appearing directly under This PC.

My next step was to go into Properties option for Libraries/Pictures. Here I simply added the correct location D/users/myname/OneDrive/pictures and deleted the location D/users/myname/OneDrive which at that time was the current location.

So, on the Positive side:

• Libraries/Pictures now shows what I would expect ie my top level Pictures folders

But, on the negative side:

• Pictures still does not appear under This PC, unlike Documents, Videos, Music etc
• in the Photos app, if I go to Folders option, it shows the folder as OneDrive, not OneDrive/Pictures even though, if i go into "choose where to look" it is correctly showing OneDrive/Pictures as the location. Obviously i can still get to the photos I need
  but it's an extra unnecessary step

Desktop files gone with OneDrive

1. Please can you try checking your recycling bin on your computer?
2. How long ago did this happen?
3. Did you reinstall OneDrive back onto your computer, or was it just there?

OneDrive automatically synced your Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos to the cloud. Normally, when things get removed, they should go to the recycling bin on the PC/Device if it was removed from there. If it was deleted on OneDrive.com it should have gone
to the Recycling bin on OneDrive.
