How do I get this computer started

    Progress update:.

I clicked on "Repair your computer"... after a couple of screens, I got to

    1. Continue - Exit and continue to Windows 10.

    2. Troubleshoot - Reset your PC or see advanced options

    3. Turn off your PC

I clicked on #2. now 6 more options:

    1. System restore - use a restore point....
    2. System image recovery - recover windows using a specific system image file
    3. Start up repair - fix problems that keep windows from loading
    4. Command Prompt
    5. Go back to previous build

I tried #3 - it went thru a "diagnosing" and ended with Startup repair couldn't repair your PC. 2 options, shutdown or advanced options.... I clicked on advanced options - took me back to the 3 options screen where I started.

maybe should have tried #1 or #2?

  2. maynard64,

I would be tempted to use Go back to previouos build, if she was already running some build of Windows 10.

Builds are treated almost like new versions of Windows, and you uninstall a build in the same way you would uninstall Windows 10 and revert/roll back to Windows 8.1 or 7.

Let's hope this helps! You deserve a good break in reward for perseverance.

"It looks you started an upgrade and booted from installation media. If you want to continue with the upgrade, remove the media from your PC and click Yes. If you want to perform a clean installation instead, click No." Yes or No????"

    1) If you can get back to here; click Yes and the interrupted Upgrade should continue from the Temp folder that the image is stored in. The complete Upgrade image must have been downloaded or the option to Upgrade would not have been presented.

    "
Took me to a screen that sates "Install Now" or a link to "repair your computer"..."

    2) If you can get back to here from the DVD, click Install Now, Like 1), both should present and option to remove all files or keep personal. Choose latter but you can clean install if everything has been previously backed up.

    1. System restore - use a restore point....
    2. System image recovery - recover windows using a specific system image file
maybe should have tried #1 or #2?

    3) option 2 is out unless you created a full system image using the Windows Backup option. If you know you have a System Restore point, then this is the quickest way to get back to where you were before attempting upgrade. You should be able to login after Restore finishes. Then do an in place Upgrade.
This tutorial should help you with what to do on each screen (you've probably seen some of them from what you've tried). Start at Step 6 and note Step 12 screen regarding files -
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

If it were me, I would do 2) and use Install Now and, if you've backed up all personal files, choose to Keep Nothing and do a clean install. But any of these 3 options should work. Good Luck
