  2. Whoa, a PS/2 keyboard. Haven't seen one of those in a while. The same advice still holds true, although you may not be able to change PS/2 power settings in the BIOS.

This will immediately and irrevocably shut down your PC. Thus, you'll want to close all open programs, and save any work you wish to retain, before you do this. Also, you'll have to hit the power button to turn it back on.
    HTH,
--Ed--[/quote] I would put that command line in a simple text and rename it to shutdow.bat create a shortcut to run as admin, and put it on the desktop, somewhere in a corner to be ready to find. A simple double click on it to shutdown.

So the computer shuts off but your keyboard stays lit/on?

This isn't a problem of the OS, but settings in your BIOS to provide power to the USB port(s) even if the computer is shut down. Your manual should explain that setting.

If this is your only "issue" then it should be an easy one to solve. I keep every tower in my house on a power strip/surge protector. After powering down the tower, I shut the power strip off, too.

This is deliberate so you can charge devices while the PC is turned off. How you control it varies from one manufacturer to another, so read your manual.

If you can't find a way to turn it off try another USB port, often only one has the 'sleep and charge' function. If so, it may well be identified with a 'lightning' symbol next to the USB one.

I didn't want to do an extra step and have to go to the strip every time, even if this solves the problem.

How do I make my computer shut down (properly)?

The thing is that, my keyboard is connected with one the old style jack, not a USB.
