Windows 10: how do i optimize and defragment an external hard drive while booting the system.

i have a WDthe brand 2t external hard drive. i was copying many videos from my phone's internal storage directly to it until it stopped froze and i canceled the copying process, and when it got stuck canceling i unplugged it. when i plugged it back in it took my pc quiet some time to read it and when it was recognized it was super slow and was still keeping the preoccupied space for the files which was around 40gb. i then deleted the files with their folder and it was still slow. i researched and found out that i have to optimize it so it may start to work again, with all the files intact,

Optime Drive - Doesn't Recognize External Hard Drive

When I Select "Defragment and Optimize Drives" my external USB 3.0 hard drive is not among the drives listed that can be analyzed or optimized. The reply to another similar post suggested reading and following the recommendations in a separate
article "Optimize Windows for better performance" which I did but found no useful information there. Any other suggestions
or alternatives?

Thanks for your suggestions. I ran the Hardware and Devices trouble shooter and it did find a problem with my

Bluetooth adapter (despite the fact that I've never used it and have no Bluetooth devices). I reinstalled and/or

fixed all three ASUS G751JY notebook Windows 10 drivers successfully. However, the external 512GB Crucial MX100

SATA3 to USB3.0 SSD remains listed as hard disc drive on Windows 10 Defragment and Optimize drives feature.

I also tried your second suggestion and ran the DISM using Command Prompt (Admin.).

It returned a Windows 10 latest build 100% system image health. The external 512GB Crucial MX100 SATA3 to USB3.0

SSD still comes up as a hard disc drive in Defragment and Optimize drives Windows 10, Control Panel feature.
