Windows 10: How do I permanently disable automatic updates?

I had 17 tabs open in an Incognito tab all about different things for my jeep. I've been trying to work on it and it's taken me a few days to get all the information I need so I can mess with the headlights, jack, and a couple of other things without the fear of messing something up. But today I got a notification that windows was going to restart, I clicked another time and the prompt disappeared. I thought that meant it would ask me again in 5 or 6 hours or in a day or two. Except when I went to the store to purchase several things I needed for the mods I'm going to do, I came back and my computer had restarted.


I was only away from my computer for about 2 hours which means it updated in that 2-hour window.


Why would it let me pick the "another time" prompt and not set a date or time? Why did it update anyways? Why does windows feel the need to ignore the user's wishes and update whenever the **** it wants regardless of what programs are open or update settings? I shouldn't have to disconnect my computer from the internet just to stop it from updating. I don't care if it's optimizations or security updates, I just want to be able to choose when to update so that it doesn't close my tabs or programs.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

Hi Ezequíaz, complete the 3 steps below to permanently stop Windows 10 Automatic Updates:

1.

Open the Settings App

Go to Accounts - Sign-in Options

Choose to sign in with a Local Account rather than a Microsoft Account.

In the Settings App

Go to Network and Internet

Set your WiFi connection as Metered

3.

Click your Start Button, type services and hit ENTER

Scroll down the list of services to find Windows Update

Double click the service

If it has started, click 'Stop'

Then you must set its startup type to 'Disabled' - 'Manual' will not do!

Restart your PC
