Windows 10: How do I recover the reserved system partition in Windows 10?

I was removing Linux Ubuntu so I could return my laptop to a single boot system and recover the drive space Linux had occupied. All seemed fine until I got the error message "error: no such partition. Entering rescue mode...grub rescue." All of the methods to fix this made reference to the reserved system partition. Somewhere along the way I deleted this, urgh...rookie mistake!, so none of the methods to fix the grub error worked - I always got to the message "access denied."


I have tried a number of methods to recover the reserved system partition, including purchasing some software which stated it could find and restore deleted partitions. Nothing has worked. I really need help on this - preferably a method that DOES NOT included reinstalling windows and thus losing all my data.

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.

Isn't that what the system reserved partition is ? Or is it just a backup incase the windows boot files get corrupt?
