Windows 10: How do the data limits work in Connection Properties?

I have noticed what, I think, is a new feature under connection properties, called "set data limit". How, and when, is this limit enforced? How does the "limit background use" option work?

My issue is that I have a connection that is metered during the day (8am-midnight), but not overnight. I wish to restrict MS and other updates (eg Skype and IBM Trusteer Rapport) to the unmetered hours. Can a feature similar to the setting of restart times be introduced?

MS is already downloading large chunks (sometimes 100MB) of data, which it does not identify, via Host Process for Windows Services (these do not show in Windows Update History), and I would like the option to make these, whatever they are, happen in unmetered hours. Likewise, Skype has no option to choose how, and when, updates are downloaded..

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if this helps:

Method 1:

This error message can be displayed when, in fact, you are already connected to the Internet. If that is the case, you can safely ignore the error message.

To disable the error message, follow these steps.

• Open network connections from control panel.
  
• Double-click Local Area Connection, and then click
  Properties.
• In the General tab, click to clear the
  Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity check box.
  
• Click OK, and then click
  Close.

Method 2: Run Network troubleshooter.

• Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the search box and hit enter.
• Select “View all” from the left panel.
• Select “Network Adapter” troubleshooter and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Missing field Connect using in Local Area Connection Properties

Have you tried uninstalling the Network Adapter? Since there is no properties in the Local Area Connection, we suggest that you uninstall the Network Adapter. Follow the steps below:

• Press Windows Key + R.
• Type devmgmt.msc.
• Right click on the Network Adapter.
• Select Uninstall.
• Select Ok.
• Select Scan for Hardware changes.

Update us on the results.
