  1. How do you stop windows from opening a new instance of a program?

This has to be a Windows setting somewhere. So, I have a graphics program that I’m running (runs on several computers all with same hardware software versions), and when I click on a file to open in said graphics program, it wants to open a new instance of the program instead of just opening inside the program that’s already open. Now I’d be inclined to think it’s a program setting, but there is no setting for it, AND not all of the computers have this problem! There are two machines that work how I want them to, I just can’t find anything that’s different between that machine and the ones that don’t work as I’d like.

I’ve checked file explorer options, there’s only one option to open this file type which is the software we are running. It's not a registry thing for the file type. I compared both the machine that works and the one that doesn't. They're both the same. There’s gotta be a setting somewhere that I’m missing to do this. Any ideas?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  2. can't open new instances of an application from taskbar

I have any program open. I right click the shortcut for it in the taskbar and a list of option comes out. But then when i try to open another instance of the program from that list by clicking on the option with the icon and program name, nothing happens.
How do I make it so that it opens another instance instead of doing nothing?

Multiple instances of a program open with different window size?

I frequently open multiple instances of the Arduino IDE program. The first opens to the same size as the window was when I closed it. Subsequent opens of new instances of the program (it's not unusual for me to have three or four instances running at the same time) open in a much smaller window. Is this normal?

How do you stop windows from opening a new instance of a program?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
