How does Windows Delivery Optimization detect the bandwidth available?

I asked this question via chat by clicking the Get Help link from within the Settings app but the support chat guy didn't know the answer. Under Delivery Optimization > Advanced Options, there are two settings to throttle the download of updates: one for background downloads and one for foreground downloads. Both have a checkbox to enable and a slider to set a percentage of bandwidth to use. My question: How does Windows determine my available bandwidth to then calculate the percentage from? How does it determinte that I have 100 Mbps and not 50 Mbps? Is it running a speed test against some service? Calculating an average over time?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - Delivery Optimization hogging bandwidth

    Hi Abhishek,

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Click the Start menu button (or type “settings” in the search box), choose Settings and click Update & security (toward the bottom of the Settings window).

    • From within the Windows Update tab, click Advanced options.

    • Under Choose how updates are installed, change Automatic (recommended) to Notify to schedule restart:

    • Next, click Choose how updates are delivered

    • Under Updates from more than one place, switch the toggle to Off:

    • Click the upper-right X to close the window; your changes will be saved.

Let me also inform you that this is an integral feature of Windows 10 as updates are installed automatically. To know more about Delivery Optimization,:

    Hope this information is helpful.

Windows 10 - Delivery Optimization hogging bandwidth

Uh sorry but it appears in many cases disabling Windows Store update actually works. Just look at the first page where my suggestion being marked as helpful by 100+ users is proof enough that disabling Windows Store update solves the problem for many who
experienced bandwidth hogging even after they modified the Delivery Optimization settings. YMMV

Delivery Optimization eating all my bandwidth

    Hi ShamPoyekar

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Windows Update

Go to Advanced Options - Delivery Optimization - Advanced Options

Pull the bottom two sliders to their minimum values

That will seriously reduce the bandwidth and amount of monthly data used by Delivery Optimization for you . . .
