How has everyone's upgrade experience been?

Upgrading and doing many clean installs with the various Windows 10 builds prompted me to look into the use of a power shell script that would automatically install my 15-17 programs for testing purposes. With the help of Kari (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...mand-line.html) I was able to construct a script that, once started, you could walk away and have a cup of coffee (or whatever*Drink1 ). Something perhaps to look into.

I haven't done an Upgrade over anything yet, had an older [days of Vista] Desktop with a clean HDD and used 4-year-old Notebook [came with Win7] with a clean HDD to start with and just did the updated Builds as they became available. Haven't had any real problems when considering they are test versions, will have to wait until I get the release version on a Desktop and a Notebook I've set aside for it. Both computers, and some others with Win7 SP1 installed and GWX working, have been rehabbed so as to avoid the landfill, most just needed working HDDs and a bit more RAM, again salvaged parts. I tried WIn10 on a Notebook of about 10-11 years age with only 2GB RAM and the 32-bit version worked good with the Intel 1.73GHz CPU, only part on it not working is the SD memory card slot but I don't know if it worked before, still not working with Win7 clean install but not needed as it will only be for a Time Clock program running for employee login/logout.

I don't understand why upgrading needs to be complicated. Isolate the user data, replace the tablecloth, drop data back into place. Done.

  4. How has everyone's upgrade experience been?

Updating VMware Tools made no difference.

I tried searching for "device manager" which failed. *Mad

I was able to tab to "Computer Management", which I have pinned to the Taskbar.
When it opened I received a bunch of error messages (like "Task<some name>.xml failed").
There was no indication of any device issues in "Device Manger".

Next time it happens I'll take some screenshots.

That might be true on your machine 100% of the time, but that isn't the case in my VMs.
