Windows 10: How long for feature update to Windows 10 version 1709 install

You most certainly can reset updates. You have that Macrium image in your back pocket. Again, you've tried this update several times without success. SFC runs clean and unless some else says this is cause I believe the outcome will be the same.

Matthew pointed out he did his from USB key. I think you tried that as well although it would be worth trying again. In BIOS shut off secure boot and fast boot.

 

2.30 nothing as expected, so I manually checked for updates, found the 1709 update...again, started preparing to install.. ran the Windows update troubleshooter which said we made changed to rectify an issue, and rather than take hours to prepare it is now at 80% after about 5 mins.. although it is staying at that lol

See what happens when it stated restart... do not hold much hope

 

If your HP has no warranty, I would do a clean install, but first download from HP support all the drivers pertaining to your laptop/notebook from HP, run a download of Win10 as admin,, backup all your files, install Win 10.
I have the HP 15-F233WM, last week in the HP Support Assistant icon showed a (!) this exclamation in it, I clicked on it, pops up to restart. it crashed, booted to Advanced Options. I no recovery option, so I downloaded the Win 10 to a Seagate Free Agent USB and installed.
My clean installed is FCU 1709 Build 16299.

Yes Matthew. I was talking about you as you had said MCT. Yes I guess I should call it a stick. I call it a key but officially I think they call it a USB Thumb drive. All good.

Windows 10 will find a very high percentage of drivers on its own. One it will miss is the driveguard and button functions. Just finished doing six, Probooks, of them. Booted and ran fine.

Having looked to be doing it different the last time after I ran the troubleshooter and it said it had "fixed" issues it was different, it seemed to download more, the download folder in softwaredistribution more than doubled on size, when through the preparing again, a lot quicker then just changed to checking for updates and I was up to date...

Annoying it has broken the HP accelerometer sensor saying it is not compatible, which is odd as it worked perfect with 1703 which I appear to still be on...

I did use the Windows Update trouble shooter and added it to the "hide updates" but it was there and has now gone from the list!

Also ran disk cleanup and removed the files...

I give up... may look at other options in the future as you mention above but I rely on the notebook and its working now!... No idea why I had this issue, and I now have 3 saying a restart is needed...

 

Stuart, download the Win 10, create you a install USB for later use. you have choice of downloading X64 or X32, or both. I downloaded both X64 and X32.

 

In Windows Defender under Device Performance & Health look in it for the Fresh Start. It says it will install the recent version, keep your files and some settings, remove some of our APP's. may improve performance.

 

Thanks for the replies *Smile I have just fixed the issue with the HP accelerometer by uninstalling the sensor from the device manager and restarting the notebook, so we are all running as we were before it tried to install... I will see if it tries to install it again, if that still causes issues then doing as you suggest may be the best idea...

I think a reinstall can make things better and cleaner
