  1. How should I deal with possibly fraudulent phone call from "Microsoft" re: IP address and...

I have received phone calls from someone identifying himself as "Microsoft". He advises me of compromises to my IP account -- and says that my license key will be cancelled or removed. He asked me to establish a connection to a technician who can assist after receiving certain information from me. I hung up and did not continue to talk to the technician. I did, however, phone Microsoft, as will be reported in Case # 1478037717.

If this was a legitimate call, I certainly want to take the proper corrective action. But I am concerned that the call I received was fraudulent. Can you advise me whether in fact I do have any problem that needs to be corrected -- or refer me to an actual Microsoft employee who can work with me to determine what, if any, actions need to be taken.

    Thank you.

  2. Finding IP address

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to find printer’s IP address:

    1. Type Devices and Printers in the Windows search bar.
    2. Select on the printer and click on
      Manage.
    3. Click on the Ports tab.
You will be able to find printer’s IP address under the ‘Ports’ tab.

Few printers also have a “Test print” option on the printer. When you print a test page from network printer, the page shows the IP address along with other details.

Note: If it is set on DHCP mode the IP address will constantly change.
The IP address is assigned automatically by your router using a protocol called DHCP.

    Hope it helps.

Static ip address to my windows 8 phone wifi?

    Hi PuffyPawPaw,

At this time, there is no way to assign a static IP address to your Windows Phone WiFi.

However, as a possible workaound, I'd suggest you find out the MAC address of your Windows Phone 8 device and then set up a DHCP reservation at a particular IP for that MAC address.

You can access your MAC address by going into Settings => About => More Inof and see you MAC address listed. Talk to your Network or Sys Admins about setting up a reservation for the MAC address once you have it.

    I hope this helps!
