How to backup and clean install? Specific situation

I clean installed 7 Ultimate in English (was OEM Pro French upgraded to Ultimate through WAU). I didn't need another key (but WAU keys are retail anyway). Language packs don't translate absolutely everything - device descriptions and internal accounts remain in the original system language for example (and sometimes get duplicated) - that is why I re-installed in English - it looked a mess and there is no way to change system language.

Someone else here recently was having problems installing programs in different languages but this may only apply to Asian languages. I had no problem with that. Run Japanese Programs in English Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

  2. My MSDN keys are just listed as Retail keys. There is nothing stating they are language specific. I can only download English US or English UK though on MSDN. My Windows 8/8.1 MSDN ISO's will read an use OEM embedded keys automatically too. Anyway, will have to wait and see what the OP does/try's.

Just a heads up... Keys are version specific - no matter what single language, it's still a Core SL key.

  6. That's what I was thinking. I just don't do enough installs to know that stuff 100%. I don't work in IT and I'm retired.

  7. So the OP may need 8.1 English Single language? Showkey will tell you that right Superfly?

  9. I reviewed my options and I think I'll stick to the 10 Edu version. Anyway, where can I download the english version? Or am I stuck with the german?
P.S.: If needed, I could install 8.1 Pro just to check if language matters.

  10. The only place I've seen the Education version is MSDN. I have a subscription though. Only English is offered for me. I haven't seen a free download site for that version. The Media Creation Tool doesn't include that version.

Just a FYI, I was running 10 Pro and went to change key, then entered my Education key, and it upgraded to the Education version. No reinstalling, and no install media needed. It kept the same language I was already using English. I don't know if it works from 10 Home though? You can do the same thing and go from 10 Pro to Enterprise too.

  14. Well according to this site, https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/Wind...siness/Compare you can easy upgrade from Home to Education. So one way to get the English version is to install 8.1 Core SL English using the embedded key, then do the free upgrade to 10 Home. Then just enter your Education key via change key. No having to install any German language version at all.

Did you run showkey to see if your OEM key is 8.1 Core or 8.1 Core SL?

  15. I am downloading the english version that I found (en_windows_10_education_x64_dvd_6848120). Will check the sums upon downloading. And I also need a clean install, but thank you anyway, didn't know that.

What's the difference between the 2?
