Windows 10: How to build my own play/pause button -- bind an f key to my media player

If my title is not clear enough what I want to do is: have one of the keys on my keyboard (like f9 or something) play/pause my music when I press it. I would like this to work even if the music player isn't focused (what's the word for that?), even if it is in the background or minimized.

Of course I can set that in my music player's settings, but that will only work if the player does have focus. Again, I want it to work even if the app does not have focus.

Is this possible? How to do it? I couldn't find the right words to google this, so any help in terminology is also appreciated thanks!

Play/Pause button on keyboard

Hello,

Since my last Windows 10 Update on the 11th of April the function Play/Pause button on my keyboard has changed. Before the update, it used to only play or pause the music being played on Windows Media Player or MPC-HC and had no effect whatsoever on Youtube
or Facebook videos being played in the Internet browser. Since the update, YT and FB video even have the priority, i.e. the Play/Pause button only effects the videos when there any open and only plays/pauses music in WMP or MPC HC when there are no videos
open in browser. Is there a way to get stuff the way they were before update?

Media buttons not working (play pause skip ...) Spotify

First off: My drivers are up to date as from August 15, 2015 and it didn't solve anything.




The problem:

My media buttons (the ones on my keyboard {picture below} of my Razer keyboard and my HP Spectre x360 Laptop) don't skip, pause or play a song in Spotify anymore. To explain more clearly I made a video about it on YouTube where I illustrate the issue. I read about disabling Windows media player sharing network service in system configuration but as soon as I'm out of that window or close the system configuration window then the media buttons don't work (regardless of the fact that the Win Media play sharing netw. is on or off (after pressing apply). It's all illustrated in the video though, so if it's not clear what I mean check out the video.




Hope someone has a solution to this!

Hi,

For us to isolate the issue further, we’d like to know the following:

• What is the version of your Windows Media Player?
• Did you get any error message? If yes, kindly specify.

In the meantime, I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the
Windows Media player. Here are the steps how to:

• Press Win button + R on your keyboard.
• In the text box, type Control.
• On the left pane, click Turn Windows features on or off option to see Windows Features window.
• Expand Media Feature list, then uncheck Windows Media Player box. It will give a prompt message;
  this will also turn of Windows Media Center click yes as you will need
  to reinstall it after.
• Reboot PC.
• You need to reinstall Windows Media Player. Open Windows Features, tick the Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, then install it from there.
