I and a friend of mine are trying to find out how we can rickroll our students, by making one of the files be an mp4 file for Never Gonna Give You Up. But we can't change the desktop icon under properties like on other file types, can we please get some help?

    Cannot change desktop icon

Sometimes a desktop icon changes from what it was to a plain white folder. Might be something I did but not sure what.

To change it to the icon I want, I go:
    1. Rt-click icon > Properties > Change icon
    2. I select the icon I want from the thumbnails of icons.
    3. Click OK
    4. Click Apply
But the icon does not change. It just stays looking like a white folder.
HOWEVER, if I pin the icon to the taskbar, the icon on the taskbar does look like the icon I selected in step-2. So the change is registered with Win10 but the icon on the desktop just doesn't change.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    How to change file icon?

Thank you for the reply Shubham. So, I see those steps work when trying to customize a single folder icon. However, what I need to do is to change the icon for all docx files (the Microsoft Word documents). When I go through similar steps for a docx file
(right-click, etc.), I see no customize tab. Further, I suspect that if there were a customize tab, then that customization of the icon would work only for that single docx file, not all of my docx files.

Is there a way to change the icon for all of my docx files?

    Thank you.

How to change desktop icon on MP4 file to make it look like a docx?

    How to change file icon?

I need to change a file type icon. More specifically, my docx files (all of them) have changed to look like (not exactly, but very similar) my folders. I want to change these icons for my docx files back to the white document page (or something similar).
    Please advise.
