Windows 10: How to change .heic images to .jpeg on Windows 11?

I have hundreds of images on my iPhone 13 with .heic extension. Copied the images to Windows 11 laptop and unable to view them. In addition, I need to bulk convert heic to jpg so I can edit and share them with others. I tested two of free tools suggested by Google but the quality is reduced sharply! Anyone is familiar with this matter? Thanks

Writing HEIC files / HEIC related metadata

I'm trying to change meta data of the HEIC images. Unfortunately, it seems that the current HEIC plugin / file support doesn't allow writing HEIC files or the related meta data. I can open the images and see them OK however. For example, I cannot add an description to a photo, or I cannot tag a HEIC image as an favorite in the photos app, there's no tags, subject or any other description fields, no copyright and I cannot add new meta data fields (for example the standard fields to be used in the press images).

- So is there some way to add HEIC writing support to the Windows 11? Preferably at the "native level", so that all the applications could take advantage of it. Either paid or free, goes.

- If not, is there a plan to add a full HEIC support to the Windows 11? I guess it would make sense, as these days it's the "standard" in iPhone and overall quite advanced, for example compared to ages old JPG.

- Anything else particular, I should be aware of, in terms of HEIC support? (besides the copyright / IP right issues, I assume is one of the root causes of the limited support)

We need more information about your concern. Are you trying to convert and open other image format to HEIC? If yes, a certain program will be needed to open that kind of file, we suggest checking the Windows Store for programs that can convert other image

.heic in Windows

Hi, my PC is running Windows 10 (happy to upgrade to 11) and I downloaded some iPhone images (.heic). My Photos app opens those files without a problem (I have not upgraded anything or installed HEIF Image Extensions). Other Apps appear to have problems seeing the .heic files at all. I use a third party software in which I upload images and that software is not able to see the .heic files. I tried 3D paint and the same there, can't open the files. Photos can convert .heic to .jpg, that helps in the meantime, but that's not what I'm after in the long run;

Is HEIF Image Extensions the way to go to teach all Apps to be able to handle .heic?

How come Photos is capable but the other programmes are not?
