  1. How to choose a default program based on file extension

I downloaded some fonts to use in WORD.
I installed a Font Manager called FontBase.
The fonts have extensions of .json and .yml.

I go to settings>default apps>choose default apps by file type.

How to choose a default program based on file extension 7c2964e6-d0ff-4b06-a67e-1beb95eac3e5?upload=true.png

I click Open with and I see

How to choose a default program based on file extension 9e214219-e2c5-4a81-bf83-cdd8b1ed893f?upload=true.png

That leads me to several help pages that all end up with something like "look for the app at the app store."

The app store says it doesn't have an app for that.

I know the program I want to use for the extension. Is there some other way to assign FontBase as the default?

    Thanks.
    SweetTasha.

    :)

  2. Can a file extension(.flv) be added to Default Program Associations.

    Hi Fred,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing issues associating a particular file extension with a program on Windows 10. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

To assist you better, please provide the information:

When you say that "Default Program Associations", are you referring to the list of default applications in default programs settings?

I want you to be informed that all the file extensions is listed in the default program settings which is displayed under

In default program list, all the programs or application will be listed. Then we can select each program as default program for opening a particular file.

I suggest you to refer to the below steps to make default program for a particular file extension.

    2. Click on Programs.

    3. Then click on Default Programs and click on Choose Default for this Programs.

    2. Click on Programs.

    3. Then click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program
and search for .flv extension from the list.

    Choose Default Program not working

    • Right click on file
    • Select Open With | Choose Default Program...
    • select a program from the list.

The selected program is opened with the file form 1)
    • Close the program
    • Double click the file from 1.

      The old program is opened.
It seems that the functionality to choose a default program is not working.

How do I specifiy a default program for a file type using the File Explorer?

How to set a default app for extensions?

    Hi Tyler,

Which app are you trying to set for .res extension?

Please try to check the app you are trying to set. Is it feasible with .res extension?

I suggest performing the steps below and check if it fixes the problem.

Go to Setting - Apps - Click on Default apps - Click on Choose default apps by file type.

On the left, search for .res extension

Across .res extension, tap on Choose a default

    Try browsing for the app.
