Windows 10: How to create recovery media?

Hi I just wanted to know how to create recovery media. I know that there is a program on my computer that I use. So first I know that I will have to get an external drive to create the recovery media on, but how much space will it need to have? When I create the recovery media will it automatically have all my system drivers and stuff, or do I have to do something to get them on it? When I use the recovery media will it somehow install the latest version of windows 10, or will it install what ever version the recovery media was created with? For example: If I create a recovery media now, and say 7 years from now my hard drive crashes, will it install the windows from now or the latest one? If it installs the old one will windows update then update me to the latest one? Can I update the recovery media after it has been created to have the latest windows and system drivers?

Cannot create recovery drive or bootable usb using media creation tool

Hi Stuart,

To assist you better with your concern, are you getting an error message upon creating a recovery drive, as well as creating a bootable USB drive? If yes, what's the error message?

BSOD Recovery Media Fails

Hi,

This issue might have occurred when the boot files are missing or corrupted.

I suggest you re-built the boot record by following the below commands and check if it helps.

You will have to use Windows 10 installation media to follow the steps to boot into Recovery Environment and try to rebuild BCD.

Step 1: I suggest you to create an installation media for
Windows 10 using the media creation tool:

Step 2: After preparing the installation media, insert it hard reboot the device and follow the below:

• Boot into Windows Recovery Environment using the Windows 10 installation media.
• Click on Repair your computer.
  
• Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options.
• Select Command Prompt. Type the following commands into the prompt and press Enter key after each command.
  • bootrec /fixmbr
  • bootrec /fixboot
  • bootrec /scanos
  • bootrec /rebuildbcd

5. Restart the computer.

NOTE: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.
