Windows 10: How to disable Copilot from Word, and hide the Copilot icon from appearing IN a Word document?

Hi everyone. Like many of you, I want to get Copilot off my computer. I especially want to get it out of Word, where it is an intrusion into my writing workflow. Although I seem to have disabled its functionality, the icon still appears in every Word doc. Does anyone know how to get rid of it or hide it? Thanks.

How to uninstall Copilot for Word

I followed your instructions and it looks like it worked! Thanks a lot for that.

I tried another method that worked too, and then Copilot came back on Word, even though I had disabled auto update. I hope the same won't happen this time.

I know Copilot can be useful for some tasks, but they should warn that it cannot be uninstalled easily before downloading it.

I understand that you want to uninstall Copilot on Word, first of all, Copilot is an integrated feature of Microsoft Word that utilizes Artificial Intelligence technology to assist users with a variety of tasks such as document editing, content creation, data analysis, and more. Since Copilot is part of Word, it can't be uninstalled separately like other applications.

Of course I will do my best to help you, for your problem, you can also try to roll back Office to the old version of the way to see if the problem remains:



1, close all Office software, in the “Start Menu” in the search “Command Prompt” (or “cmd”), and the right mouse button click and select “Administrator identity run”;

2, in the command prompt enter the following code: cd %programfiles% \Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun Enter;

3, and then enter Officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.16026.20146



After backing out of the version in Word “File > Account” menu. On the right side, check the “Microsoft 365 and Office Updates” heading, click the “Update Options” button and select the “Disable Updates” option. To disable the automatic update feature.
