Windows 10: How to expand/contract start menu

Hi all. I was able to expand/contract the width and height of the statmenu. Now only height is expandable. I do NOT want full screen. The expand arrows show when I put cursor on right edge but am not able to "pull" edge to right to expand the size.

Did the recent "major upgrade" thing deactivate this feature?

My start menu is not expanding

My start menu had always been expanded but since an update last year its shrunk. I was hopping the Anniversary Update would change that but it hasn't. How do I expand the start menu horizontally to display more tiles? (I already tried dragging it).

The first picture is what mine looks like and the second is what I want mine to look like(I got it off Bing).

Yes, i have Most Used Apps on. Always has been on and it shows apps that I barely use.

When i take apps off the start menu tiles, then they also show in Most Used. Most Used only shows apps that are not pinned to the tiles. That is how it works!

Going from what I saw so far I'd say yes. I noticed the update had removed all apps' icons I'd pinned to start.
I can still stretch it vertically but not horizontally.

If you want to change it back to what it was before, right click the app and select "Pin to Start".
The more apps you put on there the bigger that pane will grow and you can resize the icons on there.
Can't I remember ever being able to use the mouse the stretch the start menu though.
