Windows 10: How to Find Your Microsoft Office 365, 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010 or 2007 Product Key

In 2011, Microsoft introduced Office 365 subscriptions alongside its traditional perpetual (one time purchase) licenses. Since then, the Office 365 subscriptions have grown significantly with most users opting for the benefits such as: more affordable upfront cost, flexibility of installing on multiple devices, sharing with family and access to services such as 1 TB of OneDrive storage and Skype calling. That said, some users still choose to use the perpetual license or keep older versions around. In this article, we look at finding your product key if you purchased either a subscription or perpetual license.

Office 365


Your Office 365 product key might be available in multiple places. If you purchased a boxed retail subscription, the product key is normally located on a business card within the box. Here is what it looks like in different versions.






If you purchased just a product key card, then your product key would be on the receipt when you purchased product card or emailed to you. See examples below.


Minor note: Product Key Cards are region locked, so, if you purchased it in the US a trip, you won't be able to install it in your home country.





At purchase, you might also be able to provide your email address and have a digital receipt of your purchase emailed to you with the product key. See example below.




Office 2019/Office 2016


Office 2016 was distributed in separated versions for Windows and Mac, but the contents are the same.





If you purchased Office through the Microsoft Store website, you don't need to know the product key to install/reinstall the suite, but you are still issued a key you can retrieve. Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/services/


Here you will see the Office suite registered to your account. Click on View product key to reveal it.





Office 2013


Boxed versions of Office 2013 include the product key on a business card inside the box





Office 2010


You will normally find the product key within the plastic enclosure. See below.






Office 2007


This version was the most unique, but like Office 2010, you can find the key within the case on a yellow sticker.





Older versions, Office 365/2019/2016 Pro Plus


Office comes in many varieties and through difference channels. Office 365 Pro Plus for instance does not include a product key and is installed from the Office 365 portal using a click to run installer. See the following article for steps:

Volume license installations of Office, such as Office 2019 and Office 2016 Professional Plus also have keys, but these are normally available to your organizations System Administrator. If you are responsible for deploying Office in your organization, you can sign into the Volume License Service Center and access your keys there.





Office 2011


Mac users can find their product key for older boxed licenses on the sleeve inside the box.





Office 2008

No Ms Office or McAfee after reinstalling windows

Do you remember what version it was: 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 OR Office 365?

If you were able to open and view your documents, but not edit them, then you likely had a trial version of Office 365 installed.

If its Home and Student, it was either 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010 or 2007.

Its just to identify the version.
