  1. How to force 1920x1080 on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter WITHOUT INSTALLING DRIVERS.

I have a VGA monitor (no digital outputs available) plugged into ATI Radeon 3000 series iGPU, NVIDIA and AMD discrete GPUs, main monitor is plugged into NVIDIA GPU. If I try to install the drivers for the iGPU, it will conflict with my current AMD discrete GPU drivers. Also, there is no Windows 8 or above drivers for that iGPU. I don't need 3D acceleration for my second screen, I just need it to output 2D picture. Sadly, Microsoft Basic Display Driver doesn't allow widescreen for some reason. I've tried adding 1920x1080 via CRU, but it still doesn't allow it, limiting me to 1892 by 1344 or whatever.

  2. The graphics driver shows as “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter” after upgrading to Windows 10

    Hi,

With regard to your query, your Display Adapter is listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of the correct driver name. If you have recently update your display card driver, and this problem comes along, what we can try to do here is to roll the
display adapter's driver back to it's previous version.

    Please follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display Adapter's category, and right-click Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, select
      Properties.
    • Under Driver tab, choose Roll Back
      Driver.

If rolling back the driver is unavailable, update the display driver manually.

    • In Device Manager, expand Display
adapter's category and right-click Microsoft Basic
      Display Adapter, and select Properties.
    • Under Driver tab, choose Update Driver.
    • Select Browser my computer for driver software.
    • Click the Browse button, then navigate to the folder where you place the downloaded display card driver setup file.
    • Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

    Let us know the result.

  3. Microsoft Basic Display Driver???

Dell studio laptop built for Windows 7 in 2010 (quite old).

Upgraded to windows 10 when it was released.

Has worked perfectly until 2 days ago when it dropped resolution from 1920x1080 back to 1024x768.

In device manager it correctly shows a mobility radeon 4500 series.

In display settings it has a max resolution of 1400x1050 which is squashed and useless.

Under display adapter properties it shows as Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

    Tried installing ATI drivers.

    Tried uninstalling/installing ATI drivers.

    Tried uninstalling/installing Microsoft drivers.

All result in the same phenomenon.

Tried clean install of Windows 10 v1709

Tried clean install of Windows 10 v1607

Tried clean install of Windows 7 - resolved issue.

Tried upgrade back to windows 10 - resolution dropped.

Went into display adapter properties and updated driver, it updated to radeon 4500 series and briefly changed to 1080p. Then flickered and changed back to basic display driver.

Now useless, will have to go back to Windows 7 again which is hugely frustrating...
