  1. How to get rid of Invisible ''Empty Space'' Window/Panel on Laptop ?

It's a fashion based Art school. My course is animation, but I can tell you in comparision there are two rooms and 10 pcs layed out specifically for our course but are 100% used by other year groups. The rest of the Uni only has one pc suit and the rest are mac. I can't use any of them outside of our course because they do not run our programs effectively. The mac's dont even have our software. And as I said the ones for our course have pretty much been claimed. I also need the laptop because it has special - or will have when they eventually give it to me - dysslexia programs I need to use.

Sounds like the students need to rebel if they are not teaching the course with the various OS's. No sense having machines run Mac OS, unless you are going to have them do the same work on the as they do in Windows. Linux you will find out is a lot better when it comes to animation work. Especially on a machine with some power. All of the movies that do any type of animation are done on Linux workstations connected to a server Cluster or Blade that is using Fibre Channel and Professional Wacom tablets.

This is the time that you start working on your at home lab, even if it means using Boot Camp on a Macbook Pro to switch between Windows for school and Mac OS for other stuff.

Thanks for the info, Snowwolfness. I see that your laptop is special, and a lifeline for you.

Since, in the UK, Dyslexia is a recognised disability under the Equality Act 2010, any university or college offering degrees should be offering appropriate support. You should, for instance have access to a learning support tutor, and if you need individual computer technical support this is probably the person to see to arrange it for you.

  5. I would if they actually let me have my one yet. I'm still waiting to book appointments with him/her. It's gone now, the issue. But it will back again I'm sure. Thanks though *Biggrin

  6. Well the rest of the school consist of mainly Fashion retail management/promotion as well as various fashion courses that don't require the adept need for a Mac/PC. See. The Mac's we have are too slow for our needs. I mean our course-specified computers are beasts. They can run the stuff we need perfectly. But that's why they are constantly used *Biggrin. Our course refuses the use of Mac as a standard usable device/OS. The only thing they allow of it is just for writing out Essays/Dissertations. The use of one is otherwise revered as ''banned''. A student we knew that has since graduated said that for the first year he used a Mac, his tutor told him and his parents that his equipment at home was not substantial to meet the criteria needed for his following 2 years. Therefore he had to upgrade. Since changing to a computer his grades shot up and he found it a thousand times easier. Due to the high processing capabilities he had on a PC in comparison to the mac.

Me, personally, I hate pretty much all things Apple. Don't get me wrong, Ipods/Ipads are great, the new Iphone 7 looks promising. I'd own a Ipod/Ipad but that is as far as I would go. I also use the laptop of mine for gaming, so I need it to have Windows as it's OS. Heck I don't even know what Linux is! XD And just to clarify. Our course and two dedicated Windows Pc rooms. The rest of the DM rooms are all Mac. That's because the University believe that Mac's are better in terms of their usage in a educational environment. There has been many debate in the Student Union (whom which I sit as a Student Experience Officer) about the practical need of a diverse OS based rooms. I mean they just installed about 4 windows PC's into the library. But they don't have the programs I need. They have Photoshop and the rest of the suite but not the 3D software (Maya) that I need. I don't and will never own a Mac *Biggrin just in personal preference.

Look up on Facebook Bryan Chandler's group "ASPERGER'S SYNDROME AWARENESS - Bryan's Advocacy". He works with Training Links UK, along with Edu-Care Recycling UK. He may also be able to help get you a better home system. Linux works great for those of us who have Asperger's and other Autistic disorders, since there are so many different GUI's and also Open Source Software that is easier to use than what is available for Windows. Mac OS is actually easy once you become adapted to it. I have found that it is a whole lot easier to use than Windows and Linux. Especially that there are not crashes or lockups as I have had with the other two OS's.

He can help to try and get you some help regarding the Dyslexia part of your Asperger's. My nephew was able to get help even when he worked on his Associates and now working on his Bachelor's, since he is considered still having Dsylexia, even though the majority of the symptoms have been corrected and he even graduated top of his class.

You have every reason to be frustrated. All of us get that way when our work or in your case the school and government is not spending on the technology to better help those who they are leaving behind in the learning curve. Along with the fact that the tech is far beyond what you find in the workplace and what people are using on a daily basis in their homes.

Fashion is strange! People involved with it want to be individual and noticeable, but they don't want to draw attention to themselves by being different!

For that reason, I can understand Fashionistas preferring to carry around IPhones, IPads and MacBooks to as part of their personal fashion statement, rather than, for instance, a Windows Phone and Surface, just for the sake of style, and fitting in with the crowd. Shades of "The Devil Wore Prada" spring to mind.

Paint a larger-than-life Apple logo on the lid of your Laptop, with a big red Universal No ( diagonally barred Circle in red as in Ghostbusters) over it and let them envy you! see

Tell me about it Fafhrd. My daily fashion is Pajama pants, a T-Shirt and socks. Used to be blue jeans, T-Shirt and Merrill shoes for office. I can say that coming from where i had to wear a Uniform, a suit to wearing Docker's and a Polo, to being able to show up with sandals, Blue Jeans and a T-Shirt makes a huge difference.

I do carry a iPhone, but it is more of a tool for the fact that I keep all of my contacts, documents in iCloud or in notes, along with my music. Email rarely gets done on it. Web Surfing is the biggest thing when I am in a waiting room.

To me that if a person lets society dictate how they will dress and or behave, you end up with everyone behaving and looking the same. I let my mood dictate on what I wear. I have found that I tend to wear the same few T-Shirts out of probably close to a 100 different ones that I have hanging up in my closet.

Logo's are the hardest one. I tend to remove any marketing information off of vehicles, since I am not driving a Bill Board, I am driving my own vehicle that I have to pay the bank for, until I own it. I have kept my Macbook Air cover pretty sterile, since I plan on possibly trading it in in the future in maybe 4 to 6 years. If I feel that I will not, it will probably end up with stickers on the lid.
