  1. How to get rid of Windows update completely for good, for 100%?

I desperately need to block windows 10 update out of my desktop work computer, because certain older programs just won't work after the update. I payed for this hardware/software configuration, and it is mine. I find it absolutely outrageous that Microsoft keeps finding ways to render my PC purposeless. I am an adult, I can decide for myself. I don't want Big Brother to decide for me!

So, I did the following see below. To my horror, today my computer was super slow again, and it was installing the new version of Windows 10. Even without restart, it already altered the registry that I could not open the programs I use. I have been losing days of work with trying to stop this in the past, and present. Now I want it to block it for good.

I have done so far the following in the past, and these below weren't enough:

    elevated cmd:

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
Deleted Windows Update from c:/windows/system32 WindowsUpdateElevatedInstaller with superundelete
In the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder I deleted all the files and folders inside.

From the Services list which appears find the Windows Update service I changed ‘Startup Type’ under the ‘General’ tab to ‘Disabled’ and Restarted

    With gpedit.msc
I navigated to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
Changed the Configure Automatic Updates setting to ‘4 - disabled’
In regedit, I deleted everyting related to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
In there create a ‘32-bit DWORD’ value called ‘AuOptions’ and under ‘Value Data’ type 2 and click ‘OK’

I also removed windows update assistant. And gee... windows update still occurred.

    Can anyone help me?

And please, don't start it with a Jedi mind-trick that: But Windows update is good for you, you need it. Youuuu waaaant it! :-

    :)

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond How to get rid of Windows update completely for good, for 100%? :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

Windows 10 Update hangs on startup, saying 100% completed

I have a new Fujitsu Lifebook series notebook, bought just about 2 months ago. I have only booted it roughly 10 times to install some basics (virus protection, and a couple of applications I'm going to need).

During my last session, I did not install anything, but I triggered Windows Update from the start menu to ensure all the latest updates are installed.

Unfortunately, Windows now hangs at a blue loading screen with a message like "Running updates, 100% complete, do not turn off the computer".

After this had been shown for some hours, I decided to do some troubleshooting, and, based on the suggestions in the numerous forum threads found online about Windows 10 update issues, I rebooted several times. However, nothing helped:

    • Forced booting into the repair UI, then opened system recovery => the UI tells me I don't have any restore points.
    • Forced booting into the repair UI, then chose the option to boot into safe mode => stuck at the "100% complete" screen.
    • Forced booting into the repair UI, then chose to boot from a disk (with the recovery DVD provided by Fujitsu inserted) => stuck at the "100% complete" screen.
    • Forced booting into the repair UI, changed UEFI settings to always attempt booting from a disk first, then rebooted (with the recovery DVD provided by Fujitsu inserted) => stuck at the "100% complete" screen.

How do I get past that "100% complete" screen, in order to get to a point where I can interact with the system to analyze and fix the problem?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Windows 10 "Couldn't complete updates"

    This hasn't helped.

I did have some problems with step 3 and not being allowed to rename folders though I managed to work through that.

Windows still goes through the update process, gets to 100% installed updates and then says "we couldn't complete updates, undoing changes".

I tried both the steps listed and the Full Reset Windows updates link.
