Windows 10: How to get the Windows 10 Creators Update

My mistake. The ISO file downloaded with the MCT contains Pro in index 1, Home in index 2, Single Language Editiion Home in index 3, and Education in index 4:





Have you run DISM /GET-WIMINFO on the install.esd file contained within the ISO file? Either mount the ISO file saved by the MCT or insert the USB flash drive or DVD created from it. Let's say it is drive letter G:

From a Command Promt (Admin) you would run:
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:G:\sources\install.esd
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:G:\sources\install.esd /index:3
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:G:\sources\install.esd /index:4

Adjust the path in red to match your drive letter you get by mounting the ISO file or inserting the USB flash drive or DVD.

This is the exact reason why the ISO file downloaded with the MCT will no longer fit onto a standard DVD - it needs to be a Double Layer DVD - because Microsoft added Education and Single Language editions to it. You are correct, it does not contain Enterprise.

 

My win 10 creators update is stuck at 87%.
I've waited about 40 minute but still there...
Tried to restart pc, it goes back to about 70 or 75% progress, it goes quite quickly to 87 then stuck again.
If i restart it will go back to 70-75, then stuck again at 87 and so on.

Yesterday I did it on one of the laptops i have at work and it worked perfectly from the win 10 update assistant but it seems that on my desktop pc at home simply refuses to finalize the installation of creators update *Sad

You can have windows 10 update creator iso from android without média création tool. But for me it does not work, the download always stops at 99%.

My edition is Chinese. I have been using MCT from day one.

 

I used the update/upgrade assistant to install this new version on two PC. Both installs completed. What I want to know now can one delete the update/upgrade assistant off the PC's?

Secondly, as Windows Essentials is no longer compatible with this version of Windows, can it be uninstalled as well? On the one PC Windows essentials was removed during the process, but on the second it is still there.

 

Yup. And you can build it for single architecture or dual architecture (X86, X64, or both).

But no Enterprise, as mentioned above already.

 

Yes to both, actually. You can delete the assistant any time after the upgrade is completed. As for Windows Essentials, I'm surprised that one did not remove it - but you can safely remove it yourself.

 

Thanks for confirming. yes I was also. The one PC removed all references to Windows essentials and uninstalled them, and the other one left them alone.

The Creators Update still isn't available in NZ. Does that sound unusual?

 

Same here in Malaysia, still no available.

 

Distribution globally generally will take some time. But you are not forgotten about just because of your particular location but the factor involving the weight of the loads placed on the MS servers! Whenever anything comes out "Everyone" wants to jump it placing huge loads on server time despite how well MS generally has things set up. Things do tend to get slow at times and once one region's weight is lifted the next region to come will be the ones putting the load on things. Be patient we have seen this all too often in the past well before 10 came along! What can I say?!

Here I will simply be looking to run the MCT in order to secure the iso image at bit late having been caught up in another situation that came up. Shawn is free to pm me about that at any time. But I just wanted to get back to you people about the waiting times then can come up. When something new comes along the waiting lines grow and grow and everybody wants it all at once and that loads MS up big time! Be patient people.

 

Anyone who wants to does not have to wait for the update to be pushed out to them - they can go ahead and run it on their own by visiting the same page where you grab the Media Creation Tool, Download Windows 10. (Caveat: I am in the US, so I cannot verify that the upgrade now button is avaialbe in all locales - but from what I ahve read, it should be)

If you simply click on Upgrade Now you will be asked to download a small file named Windows10Upgrade9252.exe which, when you run, will download and install Creators Update for you in a similar manner as Windows Update would.

A note of caution: If you run the tool, and then walk away, after completing the download, it gives you a 30 minute timer before it reboots your computer to start the update process - and then it will start on its own.

I visited my parents last weekend and did 2 of their 3 computers in this exact manner. Saved passwords in Edge were erased, but otherwise, nothing too drastic occurred, and both upgraded machines are running perfectly fine.

 

Well the unfortunate side of the direct download links there is for not seeing the retail iso downloads but Insider Builds, Enterprise, and Student edition downloads not the Home and Pro editions. I am running Insider Pro for testing on a second build but still have the 14393.187 build running 24/7 on the main build here. Being caught with a few other outside situations I haven't been able to keep everything up to date as I would otherwise prefer including Insider builds. The MCTool however was downloaded earlier and will be run to secure the proper iso image for this latest update. But this is additional input is always good for anyone who gets lost? while trying to get the latest!

Now downloading the latest Creators Update by way of the Media Creation Tool's option of saving as an iso image which can be mounted to effectively run the update a bit faster then through the Windows Update tool or by way of booting live from either dvd or usb media. The advantage 10 brought in was the increased support for mounting iso disk images on virtual drives reducing the physical drive time previously seen with past versions.

 

Agreed, although a hack is available to download the. ISO directly - it involves either:

1). Running a non-Windows OS and navigating to the link to directly download the .ISO, or

2). Using an add-on to change the browser's user-agent to fool the Micro$oft servers into thinking that you are not on a Windows-based machine to directly download the .ISO.

However, I went ahead and used the Media Creation Tool, as it let me create dual architecture .ISOs of both Windows 10 and Windows 10 N. Less .ISOs to deal with *Biggrin
