Windows 10: How to get the Windows 10 Creators Update

Well I am on the labtop following the main desktop to later see the second remote desktop only see Upgrade by Update by way of the Windows Assistant tool. The laptop having been removed temporarily from this location and no longer using the WiFi at another location was in a blind spot for the last month or so.

At first connection to the MS servers for any updates wouldn't work and I still did not go with a flash drive after iso download for this build. On the second remote pc also needing to be updated I will again try to get or see if the iso disk for 10 Pro x64 not Education, Home, Enterprise is available. Both desktops as well as a Bought With 10 Already on it laptop last January will still see this build go on. Any Moment the laptop will need to restart at the 100% mark leaving only the remote pc. *Biggrin

While the updated build going on as a regular WU update takes about an hour or so with the labtop now at about 12-13% the second remote desktop also seems to be having a smooth transition into the latest build without fuss by way of the WU once the Windows Assistant was clicked to start things going! Unlike a few glitches we all know about with previous versions including the success of a stable W7 MS finally is getting the WU update process in working orders after several smaller loose updates kept forcing a revert back to the previous. Each or every other update would reach the 100% mark and then taking along with it any other updates roll everything back as if nothing came in! Been seeing repeat itself over the last several months! Finally with this latest the need for any iso will be by the Full System Image Backup to be made later on each machine. For this latest build plus some other smaller updates while each takes a good hour to complete the WU is no longer at fault. I have to state the obvious! They did good this time around at least!

 

Has anyone run into any major issues with the Creators Update? Should the install through Windows Update run as smooth as a manual install?

 

I often recommend clean installation, which took me less than 20 minutes.

 

I always recommend upgrading using iso first, and then clean installing if any issues.

 

A matter of personal preference.

 

How large is this update? Talk of clean installing sounds pretty major...

 

Do you mean the size of the ISO file?

 

In Edge or IE you don't need an add-on. Use the F12 Developers Tools. In Emulation you can set it to look like Apple Safari (iPad).

 

I mean the size of the Creators Update, either ISO or through Windows Update. Does the upgrade via ISO or Windows Update go smooth? Just wondering why clean installing is being mentioned.

 

For 1511, 1607 and now 1703 I've always used the MCT to make the install media and upgraded manually. The download of the .iso (or USB) is over 4GB for 64-bit, a bit less for 32-bit. Through Windows Update you would be downloading a similar setup package, so the download size would be about the same.

Personal preference, really. Some like to make a clean break at each new version. Others (like me) prefer a progressive upgrade from one version to the next. Downloading the .iso give you the option to do a clean install should an upgrade have issues - not that I've ever had any.

 

It should - but folks have been having issues, and Micro$oft is warning users notto install CU just yet.

 

Do you mean 'It should have upgrade issues'?

 

I just upgraded three separate machine by way of the Windows Assistant tool and so far only have seen the usual need to reinstall the sound card's software only. Have no need to perform a clean while making a system image for each machine running good is advised.

 

Is the Creators Update about the biggest change to Win 10 yet?

Has the manual install of the Creators Update gone mostly smooth for everyone? Why has Microsoft warned about manually installing it early?

Hopefully I can get a system image in before Windows Update starts installing at will...

 

No. Well, it is if you have 3-D capable hardware and a HoloLens. If you don't it looks hardly any different from the Anniversary Update, some more settings have moved from Control Panel into Settings and Defender looks different - that's about all you'd notice.

Because certain hardware is known to have issues.

@Kol12, if you have hardware with the known issues then Microsoft has blocked windows update from sending it to you.
