  1. How to identify the manufacturer of popup update requests?

I get frequent popup update requests at lower right of screen.

Only one of these is identifiable: Macrium

I assumed all the others were M$.

But yesterday, I clicked on an unknown popup, using a long stick and wearing a gas mask, in case I was infected. The popup was from "Intel Driver and Support Assistant", so that was OK. (On reflection, I suppose it could just as easily have been Huawei masquerading as Intel.)

But, as a general question, how safe is it to automatically click on anonymous popups?

BTW1: I have Win Defender and "always on" MBAM.

BTW2: I'm posting this in this forum, because IMO it's a security issue (rather than an update issue).

    Thanks.

    :)

How to identify the manufacturer of popup update requests?

a request for device descriptor request failed

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.
