Windows 10: how to install from USB

My son's PC running Windows 10 crashed. When we tried to boot it we got a black screen - though bizarrely the mouse cursor was visible. Eventually through this community I got some help and we managed to get to a recovery screen. However, we didn't know the Administrator password. This was our fault. But it happened because we got used to logging in with a 4-digit password and forgot what the password was. Anyway, I tried to create a bootable USB medium but I failed - it didn't help that I was trying to do this from a mac our only other computer.


I went to amazon and bought a new Windows 10 Pro system which came on a USB. It seemed best to start from scratch. I managed to access the bios and make boot from USB the first priority. Success. I thought it would be easy from there.


When we try to install windows there are four partitions. Windows won't install on any of them a different excuse for each one. When I try to recover or repair the PC it says it cannot. I am so frustrated. I cannot for the life of me understand why the new Windows 10 USB doesn't come with a clear option to reformat the hard drive and start from scratch. What can I do next?

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

 

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
