Windows 10: How to login with username and password

Above is a rough example of what I am trying to do. I don't want to sign in with any other method, I want to use the above.


No combo of my username and password works. The password I am using is the PIN assigned to the account before enabling this method. This is not a domain, just a Microsoft account linked/local profile.


cmd-whoami version of the username does work.


Tried all:

username

pc name + username with / or \ in-between

.\ or ./ beforehand

all CAPS or Sentence Case or lowercase

and all combos in between


What sort of combo is the right way?


Let's say this is my info:


PC name (if required): Oreo-PC

Microsoft email (should not be required): oreo live com

Username: Oreo

Password: P@ssword


Assume that it is case sensitive since it should be. Thanks!


Side note: Part of what inspired this is that someone triggered the warning about having to type in A1B2C3. I cleared that error already, but just want to avoid it being an issue without modifying the policy to outright timeout the account or something. This method SHOULD be easier than logging in with a Microsoft account if it actually worked. Some of the other login methods are unavailable for miscellaneous reasons.

Password issue

After going through the steps to make a new password, after a week or two, my login credentials are no longer valid. I'm forced to make a new password all over again. It seems to happen if I don't login in a certain period of time. Does our passwords expire???

You might face this issue if you have entered a wrong password or selected a different user account while unchecking the option
"Users must enter a username and password to use this computer". I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps:

• Press Windows key + R on the keyboard.
• Type “control userpasswords2” without quotes and press
  Enter.
• Click on the User account to which you login.
• Uncheck the option "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer". If it is already unchecked, then place a check mark and then uncheck it.
• You will be requested to enter the Username and Password. Fill in the details correctly. Type in the
  Username, Password and Confirm Password manually.
• Click on OK and then again OK.
• Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Getting "the username or password is incorrect try again" with initial login.

Getting "the username or password is incorrect try again" with initial login.

Dell Notebook I have been getting the error, "the username or password is incorrect try again" with initial login.
This began when still running Windows 7. I hoped it would go away when I recently converted to Win 10 but it didn’t.
When I restart, the Computer Management Event Viewer lists service control manager errors 7001, 7009, and 7031.
Did web searches on these errors. Following the things suggested for 7001, I have verified that all the services listed are running.
7009 refers to timeout errors. The 30 second default for timeout seems OK and there must be some other problem.
So far, haven’t found anything for 7031 that seems related to the subject problem.
Attached is a screen shot of a list of all the user accounts for the PC.
The dates modified are all for the day I converted to Win 10 or after.
The problem existed previously when I was running Win 7.
Searching on the subject error msg. only gives discussions on how to eliminate the startup password requirement.
That’s bad but may indicate the problem is somehow related to not requiring a password since I turned it off at some time before the problem occurred.
Everyone with the problem wants to have the requirement off.

I haven’t tried changing account names, adding an account, etc. because the PC works fine other than the message (well, it does freeze every couple weeks) I’m afraid that such changes might make it unusable.

However, the problem now prevents me from setting up a network for win 10, so I would like to clear it up.

I would appreciate any suggestions.
