  1. How to make a system recovery disk on a SD-card

    Hi!

I am using a small tablet with Windows on it. It already has little space (32GB which is actually 29 GB), with Windows eating up a ton of space. Now, with a virtual partition on the tablet reserved for system recovery, I have less than 5 GB left, not enough for Windows to update. I would like to merge the virtual partition so as to get ~5 GB extra space, in or to do so I would like to make a recovery disk on a SD-card.

The problem is, Windows does not seem to recognise the SD-card when I try to make a recovery disk! Is there a workaround, or did I get the SD-card in vain?

    Thanks for any help!

    :)

  3. How do I make a Windows 10 System Recovery Disk

This has to be an ongoing problem because I just got a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Windows 10 already installed on it and I wanted to make a System Recovery Disk - for those oops moments; and we've all had them - but when I followed the instructions to
make the System Recovery Disk I got the message -- """We can't create the recovery drive. A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive [Finish]""" So the problem hasn't been fixed or corrected because here it is October
2015 and the problem is still a recurring problem. How do I make a System Recovery Disk.

I did some research on this forum and saw that many people have been having the same problem, but didn't see an answer that worked. How can that be?

Please tech's give us an answer to this; or a site we can go to and download a Systems Recovery Disk.

How to make a system recovery disk on a SD-card

First of all did an upgrade to Windows 10 on this tablet. Can you give the make and model of this tablet. Believe can not use an SD to do this, be best with a USB Flash drive. If upgraded some of that space is being also used by backup of old OS. Hooking a USB device usually by using a OTG Cable on a tablet. 5GB left on drive is not going to be good enough, 75-80 % used on a drive will cause significant slowdown in performance.

  5. I just updated my profile, the tablet is a Lenovo Miix 3-1030. I am currently trying to update windows again, and it doesn't accept the SD-card with 16 GB free when it asks for an external drive with at least 10 GB free.

I would prefer not to use an external USB, as I have no cable that adapts to the single mini-USB port...

  7. Sorry for any confusion
I have had windows 10 on this tablet for many months now. Currently trying to upgrade windows 10 to version 1511, 10586.
I want to free up space by merging the 7 GB recovery partition by using a SD card as my recovery. Is it possible?

O.k. i understand now. My concern was even gaining extra 7 GB what will you have still free on this drive ? Once you do try to get this recovery on a SD how will you go about making a recovery disk if this is possible to even do ?

    Hi,

Have you tried to free up space by running Windows's Disk CleanUp utility ?
Disabling hibernation for the time being may also help, etc.

That said, you'll likely need far more than just an extra 5 Gb to allow Windows to run the upgrade so maybe a more sizeable HD is advisable if you want to keep using this tablet for years to come.

This Recovery partition you have contains Windows 10 or 8.1 ? Assuming it being an OEM partition that is.

    Cheers, *Wink

  11. Right now I have 2-5 GB left, depending on how far Windows update gets before deciding there is not enough room to update successfully. With the extra 7 GB I'd be able to update Windows.
My question goes to ask if I can use the SD-card for recovery? Can I make it a recovery partition (or disk? What would you call it?)? If my tablet needs to be wiped, I would use it to restore Windows and settings. Not a backup, but a Windows recovery disk. I hope you understand.

Not going to be able to boot from a SD card, why i suggest a USB Flash Drive. Certainly can not boot from a factory recovery partition on a separate device it was copied to.
Need to make discs from it be your best bet, get yourself an otg cable. Do not know how to extract that factory recovery partition, some software can do it or i believe diskpart maybe.

  14. Would it be possible to make a recovery disk of a SD card, and if needed copy it to an USB? Or does the recovery disk have to be made on the media it is going to be used from?
I don't mind not getting a factory reset, Windows can make its own recovery disks, correct?

Going to have to boot from it, never seen option to boot from an SD card yet in a BIOS. Think you trying to say copy contents to a SD then transfer to a USB ? Chances after Windows 10 upgrade you might not be able to access this factory partition to even make recovery discs unless went back to original OS, some systems have an app to make the discs do you still see it on this tablet ?
