How to make an SSD the exclusive boot device?

I installed. I clicked the 350mb drive and clicked copy and a where to copy screen appeared. No matter which drive I choose, the next button never lights up, stays gray.
How can I make the 400MB unallocated? It says it is 100% free, can I format it or that isn't good?

Did you create a partition in the 400mb empty space at the beginning of the SSD since your opening post? If so, you will want to delete the partition you created there to make the space unallocated again.

How to use copy partition wizard of MiniTool Partition Wizard?

    diskpart
    list disk
    select disk 1
    list partition

post a pic of diskpart cmd window

because it appears you create a raw partition from the unallocated disk space
which means it now needs to be formatted, before appling the boot files...

BCDBoot is the utility to create the boot files on the system partition...

to many suggestions, to many hands in pot...

    confusing results and poor feedback....

How to make an SSD the exclusive boot device?

or you could just remove the HDD and Clean Install windows 10 onto the SSD again

  5. Kyhi Win User
    or you could do

From an Admin command prompt type> bcdboot D:\Windows

this will add the windows 10 OS on the D drive into your current BCD Boot Menu

and the cmd below will display the Dual-Boot menu option, upon reboot

From an Admin command prompt type> bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu True

Because the one thing we do not know is if even windows 10 is bootable.....

    @Kyhi
Agreed. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
He's already re-installed Windows 8 so the 350MB system reserved is strickly from Windows 8 containing Boot Manager and Recovery tools for Windows 8.

What I'd have suggested is using Macrium to copy the 500MB System Reserved template for Windows 10:
    BootMBR_Only-00-00.zip - Google Drive
Then copy the D: drive next to it, disconnect the HD. Use Macrium to fix boot problems then it should work.

As proven from this thread. It was for GPT disk but should work the same for MBR disk except in this case, we would use the MBR template:

Problem is, he is un-familiar with the Programs (Apps) mentioned..
    EasyBCD, Macrium...

    with Command Prompt (admin)
he can copy and paste the commands..

How to make an SSD the exclusive boot device?

Understood but even if it boots, it won't be right and still be a mess. The Recovery Environment will be from Windows 8. The method I suggest will be as if you do a fresh install.

Windows 10 does the 450MB recovery partition - which is already on disk 1
windows 8.1 recovery is 350MB - which is on disk 0

but who knows what is where or why...

Still do not even know if the OS on D: will even boot..

No. The 450MB was the left over from his previous upgrade, he wiped out the System Reserved then re-installed Windows 8.

I didn't go through the entire thread here, but could it be a UEFI vs Legacy BIOS issue? (like the mobo is set to UEFI but the OS was installed as Legacy - GPT vs MBR disk?).

How to make an SSD the exclusive boot device?

That has been the problem since the begging, I never could boot to the SSD since the wipe of the HDD, that had the boot loader on it. I just got back from work, sorry for not responding and thanks

No feedback? Every suggestion that was posted, I tried, it failed, I responded with what it said and what happened, then I keep getting told to do the same stuff...that was already suggested and that I already had tried and it had already failed. I posted exactly what was on my screen after each suggestion failed. Not sure how that isn't feedback

Did someone already suggest to try to switch the 2 drives physically? (Make SSD as Disk 0 and the HDD as Disk 1.)
