Windows 10: How to make wireless connections work?

So, I try to connect to a wireless connection without an adapter. Nothing pops up. I put in an adapter and the network shows up, but when I try connecting to it, it won't connect. It doesn't allow me to connect to my Wi-Fi even with an adapter. Idk the specifics of the computer so idk if it's compatible with TVI-Fiber network or it's just the adapter isn't right. Troubleshooting doesn't work. Idk what to do because I just got this computer from a friend who built some parts for extra storage and RAM, but left the rest alone and I can't even do anything with it. The internet is no help either.

Wireless connection no longer working

The wireless connection to my laptop is no longer working. I went to "network settings" followed by "wireless network connection" and the switch is turned to "off" and cannot be changed to "on". I went to "manage wifi and everything is turned on or checked. Under "known networks" mine is not listed. I rebooted the router, the wifi and the computer but nothing changed. Wireless is running normally to the rest of my computers.
