Windows 10: How to move a profile to a new computer?

Old and new computers are running Win 10 2004. All accounts are local, not Microsoft accounts.

My wife's old laptop - her only computer - is dying. My laptop is not my primary computer so I could set her up on it - she does not currently have a profile on it. I'm considering installing programs she needs on my laptop and then copying her profile there, but I'm not sure the best way to do this.

1. Should I copy her whole profile over before defining here userid; then define her userid and hope everything works?
2. Should I define her userid and then copy her profile? (I suspect this would result in an unusable profile.)
3. Should I define her userid and then copy parts of her profile that I think she would need? (I suspect I would be spending months finding pieces of AppData that I missed. Or worse yet, not finding them.)
4. Should I use some other technique I haven't thought of?

I know there is at least one program - Transwiz - that is supposed to make this task easy, but I know nothing about it.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Yet another excellent contribution from Martin.

pokee - As Martin says, once you have copied the Documents etc folders across the remaining steps could simply be to display her user account Settings on both old & new computers and manually copy what she has from one to the other.
- The same procedure could be adopted for application settings, such as MS Office application Options, which are awkward to list but a snip to work through with both displays showing them.
- Some applications do have backup-restore procedures for their settings but investigating them from scratch might take longer than just copying them across.
