Windows 10: How to PERMANENTLEY disable efficiency mode for chrome on Windows 11?

I have been having the same problem for a while now, and I am finally fed up. I noticed it about 4 months ago, and I can't be sure if it started happening after a recent update of chrome or windows, but my downloads are taking forever. This is only present on my main computer Windows 11, and not on any of my other lab pcs Windows 10. I have been trying to find ways, but even when trying to right click and disable in task manager, it is grayed out and it wont let me disable it. If I drop down, I can turn off each individual tab, but only for about 3 seconds before it enables again. I am sur

Hi Gavin, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

This was a problem to me as well in Edge. I had hardware acceleration enabled but I still see Efficiency mode on processes under Edge most of the time. The only solution that worked for me was to put this command at the end of the Target field in Edge shortcut properties. This works for Chrome as well.

--disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess

How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.



Since yesterday (28 March) Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.

Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes.

- I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.

- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc

- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.

- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.

- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.
