Windows 10: how to permanently stop apps from downloading onedrive files

Whenever I open an app like VLC, I get a notification telling me that the app is downloading files on my onedrive so I click cancel download and click block app when asked to prevent future downloads but the next time I open the app it just starts downloading files again even though I blocked it. It is getting really frustrating because I have to block the app every single time I want to use it or else it will eat up all my disk space. It also never shows up in the blocked apps list in settings. How do I make it block permanently? here is a screenshot of the notification

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

OneDrive not blocking apps from downloading files with Files on Demand

Hello

To save space on laptop I use Files on Demand feature in OneDrive. But every time as I am running some other app, like backup software or some photoediting software like ACDSee, file what are on OneDrive cloud get downloaded. To stop this I try to block
the app to stop automatic file downloads. The problem is the app is not getting blocked not from OneDrive Block App feature, name of the blocked app is not appearing in Settings>Privacy>Automatic file downloads blocked app list. Also changes in registry then
changing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Spftware\Policies\Microsoft\Cloudfiles\BlockedApps DWORD value Enabled data to 1 (0 is allowing) is not changing anything and the App still downloads files.
