    How to reinstall Windows 10 after HDD failure (only Win7 CD/licence present)?


    I have a USB 8GB Stick and a Win10 ISO file named - Win10_1803_English_x32.iso

    How do I get my 32bit PC running again using a replacement, formatted, empty HardDisk, following the hardware failure of my Win10 Boot Disk? This was a free Win7 to Win10 upgrade (a genuine Win7 CD/licence is present)

    I only have a creaking, old XP PC with Internet access which I used to download the ISO.

    A Media Creation Tool is mentioned but I cannot find it, using my XP PC.

    As a re-install is needed, is it sensible to upgrade to 64bit?

    Hey all,

    Nub question, but need reassurance before I do this.

    I want to reinstall Win7 on my SSD and don't want to lose the data on my 2 other HDDs in the rig (2tb data drive is essential to not lose w/ the reinstall). If I pop the discs in and completely format the OS drive, reinstall, and run.... will the system just recognize the new "old" hdds??? Thanks

    Renewing Windows 10 Licence Key after HDD failure

    Hi,

    I had activated my Windows 10 licence on a new PC I've built myself. Sadly, the HDD died on me and I had to replace it.

    I reinstalled Windows, and now it claims my key is invalid. Is there any way to use this key, or do I need to buy a new one?

    In case I do need to buy a new one, there's something else I need to know: the reason the hdd failed is a motherboard shortage. This motherboard is faulty, I'm going to have to replace it as well, and apparently if I make substantial hardware change I may
    need to get a new licence (maybe if I sneeze too hard next to the computer it will invalidate my licence too?). Do I actually need to wait until I replace the motherboard?

    I've acquired the free Windows 10 licence from Insider program. I don't have neither Windows 7 or 8 licence. System is installed on my spare and slow HDD.

    • Can I transfer or reinstall Windows 10 on my main HDD or on a new SSD? Will the system activate properly after clone or reinstall?
    • Where I can find the product key which were given to the preview members?
