How to remove Context Menu Program UAC Prompt

    Hi,

Been trying to sort this out, but no luck with my searching.

I am using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free. Everytime I attempt to use the conttext menu to scan a file, I get the UAC prompt, which is extremly frustrating. I know the premium version must add policies to remove this intrusion (as I have it installed on my desktop rig).

Anyone have an idea on how it can be done? Am surprised I wasn't able to source any existing resolutions on the web. Cheers.

    :)

    Disable or Remove Windows Defender

Can anyone tell me how to turn windows defender off, or remove it all together. I have another program I use. I was going to stop the Antimalware Service Executable in the Services menu but the warning prompted me to ask around for some context.

Thanks for the fast replies. I know of both those suggestions.

I don't want to compromise security by disabling the UAC completely. As someone who suffered a ransomware attack on my media streamer recently, I would prefer to maintain above minimal levels on machines that hold important data.

I already utilise elevated shortcuts for desktop accessibility on programmes like Mediaportal configuration, etc.

I was hoping for a solution to disable UAC when selecting programmes via the context menu.

  7. Hi:

As the others have pointed out, UAC is a Windows safety feature that was introduced in Vista.
    Disabling UAC in order to avoid having to "OK" a single dialog box when running a context scan with MBAM (or for any other reason) is not a good idea. {But, of course, it's your choice for your computer....}

As you report that you have already been a serious malware victim, I'm not sure I understand the rationale for wanting to lower your system's security.*Huh

Also, as you know, MBAM Free is just a manual, on-demand scanner. It can only detect/remove malware that has already made it past your real-time defenses onto the system. If you want to bolster your security by adding a layer of protection to help PREVENT zero-hour and zero-day (non-viral) malware infection, then you would need the paid, Premium version of MBAM. The cost works out to pennies a day, or less.
And, yes, installing and running MBAM Premium from a Windows Admin account permits MBAM to run many tasks silently and/or without the UAC prompt.

Also, as far as context-menu scanning with MBAM, please be aware that -- by design -- MBAM does not target certain types of files. Scanning of file types not targeted by MBAM is a task better suited to your AV, and to submission to Virustotal, jotti or a similar service. This recent post at MBAM forum explains in more detail.

    Thanks,
    MM

How to remove Context Menu Program UAC Prompt

    Thanks for the thorough run-through.

But apparently it is OK to have the paid version of any programme to bypass UAC for access? If so, why not any programme's free variant?

Because I want easier access to a programme/application I already trust. Without the need for extra mouse/keystrokes.

According to Malwarebytes own comparitive page, the only difference I may need is the Chameleon component. I can live without it. The PC I am asking this question for is simply an HTPC, & I just want added basic protection for any file downloads I do. I already check files using Panda Antivirus free: by using the context menu! Without UAC prompting. Which is also achievable with Defender. So it can be done.

So, I am assuming you are stating if is not feasible for a free programme to bypass UAC, using context menu, which is my original query.

I wasn't aware of this. That's just brilliant. Just how many programmes are the general public supposed to install to protect themselves from the A-holes of the World. Why isn't that particular programme listed on the home users area of Malwarebytes.org? According to the referred site, media filetypes aren't scanned. So just what does Anti-Malware DO when you press scan for a filetype with a media extension? Show the bells-and-whistle lights, but just sit silent, leading end users to think the're secure.

As for this chestnut axiom -
    - if you add ALL the free programmes you've installed on your PCs & convert them to paid versions, it''s not just pennies: it quickly adds up to significant money, on an annual basis, for most computer users.

Listen...I do appreciate responders' attempts to further my self-learned PC knowledge -it is from people such as yourselves I know what I do- but I am simply after the answer to a simple question, & the how-to achieve it. Thanks.

BTW. I am running Non-Pro version, so I don't have Group Policy Editor access.

  9. Hi:

Sorry, I was just trying to help.
With more than 22,000 posts at the Malwarebytes forum, I do have a wee bit of knowledge about the program.
But I am not a programmer and I do not work for Malwarebytes.

I'm not sure you can do what you want without breaking MBAM or lowering your system security.
But perhaps you might want to open a ticket at the Malwarebytes Help Desk.
The Support Team members there will have access to a range of tools and to the program developers in order to assist you with such a specialized request and to address your many other concerns about how the program works.

    Take care,
    MM

    Hi,

No need to apologise. As stated, I do thank volunteers like yourself for the internet work you do.

Here's me thinking it would be a simple matter to accomplish. Something to do with taking ownership, altering permissions, or the like. Apparantly not. I still don't understand why not, when other free programmes (like anti-virus programmes) install & gain access without having to close out prompts. As I'm not IT, I'm unlikely to come across the solution myself.

    Might try another angle. Cheers.
