Windows 10: How to Remove Windows 7 from dual boot with Windows 10

I have a little problem. I have Windows 7 and Windows 10 Enterprise Build 10240 set up in a dual boot configuration on the same hard drive. Windows 7 is the first partition on that drive and Windows 10 is the second. I have decided to keep Windows 10 as my main OS and want to remove Windows 7 and reclaim that space for the Windows 10 partition.

What is the easiest way to accomplish this without a complicated and long procedure? I have tried Easeus Partition Master 10.5, but am unable to format or delete this active partition. I tried to format and/or delete this through Windows 10 as well with no success.

Dual Boot

If you have already upgrade to Windows 10 then you either need to Roll Back / Recover your previous version of Windows and then purchase a retail version of Windows 10 OR purchase and copy of Windows 7 / 8.1

The free upgrade to Windows 10 is over, that means you must purchase Windows 10. I would purchase a "Retail" version and install it as a "Dual Boot" allowing a user to keep Windows 7 or 8.1 and use Windows 10 on the same computer (as long as you have enough
free space on your disk drive to create a separate partition for Windows 10. The "Retail" version of Windows 10 allows you to move it to another computer (as long a you remove it from your current PC).

Just reboot to switch between the version of Windows you are currently using and Windows 10. The concept of "Dual Booting" is the same for the released version of Windows 10 as it is for the Preview builds / versions.

Note that might have to repair Windows 10's bootloader using a repair disc/USB drive by typing this command into Command Prompt:bootrec /fixmbr

 

I used EasyBCD 2.2 to remove the W7 bcd text and reset the countdown to 0 seconds for the boot menu. Then I formatted the W7 drive. Done.

 

might need to remove Windows 7 from the boot tab of System Configuration (msconfig).

 

Thanks for the answers...Will try both of them this weekend when I have more time to play around with this.

Update: Used GPart and deleted the Windows 7 partition and extended the Windows 10 Partition to include that space. Ran the MBR fix command that was given in a reply here, but my system did not boot. Tried a repair with the system repair disc I created, but still no luck. I ended up just deleting all the partitions and formatting the space as one partition and re-installing Windows 10 again. All is OK now.
