Windows 10: How to resize $MFT

Hi to all,

Hi, I am trying the latest version of windows 10 on my laptop and I am doing some cleaning to load the system faster, I would also like to resize the $ MFT. How can I do?

Hi,

when system starts, ntfs.sys driver tries to allocate MFT zone just after last MFT fragment. If this is impossible MFT zone is located in any suitable place on disk.

Please note, MFT zone have no physical representation in file system terms, it exists only due ntfs.sys attempts to optimize possible MFT increasing.

I am using an HP Laptop running Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version 1909 recently updated..

I use Raxco Perfect Disc 14 Professional to defrag my hard disc drive and note that recently the visual display of the Hard Drive Blocks which it provides show that the MFT Blocks are no longer adjoined by the MFT Zone.

Should it be the case that the MFT Blocks should precede the MFT Zone (which I assume is free space for MFT to expand without fragmentation.

Do I have a problem with my Windows 10.

• Does it happen only on one application?
• Which application are you having issues resizing or moving?

In the meantime, we suggest you to run the Windows 10 troubleshooter. Kindly follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key +X, select
  Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to
  Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel
• Run the Windows Store apps troubleshooter
