Windows 10: How to restore from a veeam bare metal image

The program your iso is associated by default is file explorer- if you've not installed any programs that associate themselves with an iso, what CountMike says is true and if you rt click the iso you will see Mount as one of the options.

However, if you have have installed another program that handles isos, or perhaps compressed files and isos, the behaviour will be different.

Anyway, once you've mounted it (so you get a new drive letter to look at) why not post a screenshot of what you see?

And how was the iso created? By Veeam software?

I can't find any Veeam endpoint available, only veeam agent for windows, that i have currently installed and can't use it to restore.

I can access recovery environment with the bootable usb pen I've created form iso image with rufus.

Booting with the pen and in the recovery environment i select bare metal recovery and move to the next menu where i need to specificy where the backup file is. As i have no file only iso image not sure how to move forward. Cheers

 

Again, how was your iso file created? What was its origin?

It's not exactly like a downloaded Windows iso from MS.

Did you create it with Veeam software? Did you download it? Do you remember?

How large is that ISO ? It doesn't look like it contains anything but boot files and options.

Well, it's not whole OS let alone full backup, must be just boot part. This are partitions opened by mounting MR disk image:

I know this does not help OP but Veeam is really geared for the corporate market. It is not even clear what the Macrium Reflect Free equivalent (Veeam Agent) as they have a tool Macrium Backup which is different.

Even creating a bootable usb flash drive is not obvious. I loaded it a few days ago and could not find anyway of creating a flash drive from Veeam Agent. You actually have to run a separate program - which is possibly why OP has got into difficulties. Even as a relatively old hand from Norton Ghost days, this floored me for a while.

The drop down list for drives do not always show immediately e.g. an sd card, without forcing a sort of refresh.

Dragging an dropping partitions as you can do with Reflect eg when you want to reorder them for example is a simple gui excercise. In Agent, you have to go through partition selection menus one at a time which is slow and not intuitive, and if you make a mistake, not easy to revert and correct without starting over.

I actually emailed some videos doing above with Agent and Reflect, to one of their developers who was adamant their GUI was easier than Reflect, showing him precisely the opposite, and he sort of "ummmed and ahhhed" and gave a cop out "thank for your feedback" reply.

Of the main players, I think Easeus Todo Backup Free has one of the simplest GUIs, but it is SO SLOW but is a reliable tool.

AOMEI Backupper has a quite simple GUI but so simple, there is little flexibility.

Good old Reflect's GUI's is not the simplest I admit, but it is highly featured and is pretty much a "one stop shop". It really only takes a few minutes following @Kari's excellent tutorials, and you can pick up basics in no time. There are many youtube guides as well.

 

Mm, good comments, but I think it all bodes badly for babuja who almost certainly has no actual image of his original OS.

I'm guessing when babuja mentioned repairing the OS, that was a reset. So no programs.

That means there's no recovery option.

 

Iso image created with veeam agent for windows. I've been able to register with a friend corporate email and sent a ticket to veeam without repply so far.
