Windows 10: How to set my display settings static?

How can I disable the plug&play and/or similar features for displays on Win10?

I have 2 different monitors. Both of these turn off after some time. Which is normal energy saving behaviour. For some reason Win10 cannot handle this. The following issues have been observed:

• 
  Resizing of app windows
  
  
• 
  Moving of app windows out of vision, that was a fun one to fix.
  
  
• 
  Rearranging desktop icons. Not align top left, but changing most of their positions even though they are all still within the original canvas size.
  
  
• 
  Moving full screen windows to the one that wakes up first.
  

I just want windows to not change any settings on window size/location automatically. I want my windows to still be in the same spot after I’m done taking a shit. I want my icons to stay where they are so I can easily find them. Not look through a now random list of icons to find the one I need. I don’t want to waste time every time I’m coming back from a phone call of whatever to have to redo my entire setup again cuz windows fucked it up for me. Again.

Display settings

Hi Julia,



To reset the settings back to default, follow these steps:

• Go to your desktop, right click and select Display Settings.
• Choose the appropriate settings from the options under Display.

Let us know if the above steps resolved the issue.

 

Can't connect to internet with computer set with static IP

My guess is that you made a typing mistake, e.g. typing 192.186 instead of 192.168. If this is not the case then I suggest this:

• Set the machine to DHCP.
• Check if you can ping your other machines.
• Mark and copy the command below with Ctrl+C.
• Press the Windows key+R
• Press Ctrl+V, then Enter.
  
• Repeat steps 2 to 5 for a static address.
• Post the results of Step 2 (twice!) plus the contents of the desktop file IP.txt.
  

cmd.exe /c ipconfig /all >> "%UserProfile%"\Desktop\IP.txt"
