    I agree with 'Edwin', this link doesn't work. I have used this a few times when my Classic Skype says there's a newer version. You download version 8 and when you try to install, just tells you to go to the Store which downloads the v12 app that a lot don't like. I can't remember if I had to run compatibility but I don't think I did. The Classic Skype msi installer is in post 10. Cheers.

    On page Download Skype | Free calls | Chat app you need to select Tablet to get download button for the latest Win32 / desktop version of Skype:

    Selecting Desktop, the button takes you to Store for UWP Skype app instead.

    Edge broweser in build 17093, clicking button Get classic Skype for Windows tablet starts downloading file SkypeSetupFull.exe

    The button under Desktop links to Store and UWP app.

    Still gives me the aforementioned SkypeSetupFull.exe v7.40.0.104,

    not the Enhanced version 8.13.0.3, (now 8.15.0.4)…

    I'm not sure what's going on with all these Skype versions but, at Skype you have to download it on a Windows 7 machine or it just re-directs you to the Store, then install it on a W10 machine in W7 Compatibility Mode.

    The key to keeping Classic Skype looking the way it does (like in post 12 with the menu bar at top vs icons), is to disable automatic updates in Options/Advanced. If you click the 'update classic Skype' button when you fall for the 'update available' message, it takes you unwillingly to version v8 which looks like v12 Store App, the interface that's much harder to use/get used to and integrates your entire People address book (9/10 contacts there don't have/use Skype) which clutters things immensely. I'm resigned to just leaving it at 7.40.0.104 under the 'if it's not broken' policy and presuming it's no longer supported. *Banghead

    I find version 8 pretty slick and just as functional as version 7...
    I found though, that media clips sent to the classic version will not play in the app, it'll kick you to the web UI...

    well managed to install the desktop version of skype, but still no contacts appear...frustrating..

    First, make SURE you are using the same sign-in as you do on MS People or Outlook. Under Contacts tab, Check that Contacts has 'All' checked, then go to Advanced/Restore contacts from file (you may have backed them up 'accidentally' at some point).

    I am using previous login name and microshaft login name also all to no avail...sooooooooo have had it with them... weird thing is that it works with Linux!! but then again Linux is superior to windowcrap.. *chuckle

    If you see your contacts in Linux, then export your contacts to a .vcf file and 'restore' it to the Windows version !
